KING OF CALIFORNIA Micro Sprint Series – FRESNO, Calif. (April 16, 2018) – As the atmospheric river finally relented over the Golden State, the King of California Series was able to drop the green flag on the 2018 expanded campaign.
Dixon Speedway would play host to round one Friday Night, and Delta Speedway served as the host of round two on Saturday. Fierce battles and a star on the rise highlighted this weekends action in the Elk Grove Ford Jr Sprint Class during opening weekend.
The Elk Grove Jr Sprint class would be the first to take to the track for racing action at Dixon Speedway. Austin Wood was rolling out of the gate as he landed quick time honors. The battle would transition into the heats as he and Caleb Debem had a fierce battle going toe to toe with Debem coming out on top.
However it was Wood came out swinging for the points paying main event. He took off to an early lead and never looked back. Wood would capture the very first checkered of the 2018 King of California Series in the Elk Grove Ford Jr Sprint class over Caleb Debem second and Jett Barnes rounding out your podium and taking home the MPI (Max Papis Innovations) 3rd place award.

However the celebrations wouldn’t last long as the drive down to Stockton for round two at Delta Speedway loomed ahead. Saturday night at Delta would mark a record breaking night. Delta Speedway is synonymous with premiere competition and national status car counts. King of California night in conjunction with the Delta Season opener would prove to be a night one family will never forget.
The same contenders showed up to do battle once more along with a few other prominent names. Among them was multi-time winner, Dalton “the sheriff” Parriera, of Hanford, who earned his name by dominating a portion of 2017. He came to Delta Speedway to give the rest of the class a run for their money.
As the A-Main took off it was six year-old Jett Barnes, of Visalia, who started up front. He had his work cut out for him as round one winner Austin Wood started to his outside, Debem third and Parriera from the fourth sport. The six year old Barnes led the field to green and left the competition to battle behind him thanks to a game of cat and mouse between Wood and Debem. Round one winner Austin Wood found trouble on lap seven and ended up upside down after relenting the third position to Parriera. He would continue, bent wing and all, and managed to salvage a sixth place finish.
Barnes led the field to green on the restart with Debem and Parriera within striking distance. Barnes once again took off and left Parriera and Debem to duke it out for 2nd. In the closing stages of the race Parriera was able to out duel Debem and move into the second position. From there he set his sights on the leader Barnes, but it was too late.
Exactly One year to the date of his first career race in a Jr Sprint, young Jett Barnes held his composure and took his DIRT CO. Media House number 55 to victory lane. Dalton Parriera came home second and Caleb Debem rounded out the podium and captured The MPI (Max Papis Innovations) 3rd place award.
The 2018 edition of the King of California Series is off and running in full swing. If opening weekend is any indication of what’s to come, we have some serious battles on our hands. With Wood, Debem, and Barnes committed to the series the Elk Grove Ford Jr. Sprint class has the making to go down to the wire. The season resumes in two weeks for round three and round four. Round three, exclusively presented by Salmon Motorsports is set to roll into Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park in Visalia, California, on Friday, April 27. Round four gets underway the very next evening, Saturday, April 28, at Lemoore Raceway presented by T-Zone Promotions.
