Van Dyke Motorsports and Australian racer Sammy Walsh getting ready for a trip to the Midwest
By Gary Thomas
Pleasant Grove, CA – June 25, 2018…With the weather warming up and the biggest portion of the Sprint Car season on tap Pleasant Grove, California based Van Dyke Motorsports is preparing for a Midwest venture with Sydney, Australia’s Sammy Walsh behind the wheel.
Last season Walsh competed in the United States during both Ohio and Pennsylvania Speedweek while driving for his own team. He ran a total of 16 shows during that time and led the first 15-laps in the feature at Waynesfield Speedway in Ohio, until mechanical issues relegated him to a ninth-place finish.
Walsh is a 31-year-old father of two that has been racing Sprint Cars for 12 seasons. He is fresh off a campaign that saw him win four races Down Under and bring home a career best third place finish in the standings at Valvoline Raceway in Sydney. Walsh is also the current track record holder at the facility.
The Aussi will pilot the Lucas Oil Products sponsored No. 5H Sprinter starting in mid-July with a healthy mix of events with the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions and the Knoxville Raceway. The trip will culminate with an appearance at the 28th annual Knoxville 360 Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank, the Front Row Challenge in Oskaloosa and the 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores.
“I’m looking forward to competing in the Midwest coming up with Sammy Walsh in the car,” Van Dyke commented. “We have a pretty aggressive schedule starting on July 20 in Jackson and going all the way through the Knoxville Nationals. We won’t have many off days during that time so it’s almost like an extended Speedweek.”
This Saturday night the Van Dyke Motorsports machine will be piloted by San Jose’s Tim Kaeding with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series at Placerville Speedway. Kaeding is currently leading the standings with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards and will also be aboard his familiar Josh Bates owned No. 42X during that portion of the evening.
Van Dyke Motorsports would like to thank Lucas Oil Products, NAAKE Suspension and JRI West, T&T Trucking, Rafter V Farms and Hansen Machine Works for their support this season.
