Kyle Offill scores 10th place finish on opening night of the Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway
Watsonville, CA – July 24, 2018…Tracy’s Kyle Offill and Team KO Racing spent this past weekend competing at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway during the prestigious eighth annual HK Classic. The second-year Sprint Car driver highlighted the double header by earning a top-10 effort on Friday and followed it up with being the only 360 to make the feature in Saturday’s KWS-NARC finale.
The weekend honored retired racer Howard Kaeding, who was a multiple-time California state super-modified champion, a four-time Johnny Key Classic winner and once captured 23-straight races at the San Jose Speedway. The driver known as the “Campbell Comet” claimed over 300 main event victories in his career.
Friday’s opener was sanctioned by the Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster and Offill began the evening by qualifying 16th overall. He then went on to claim victory in his heat race and tally a fifth-place finish in the dash to earn a third row starting spot in the feature. During the 30-lapper he battled around the top-10 over the course of the contest, before crossing the stripe in 10th at the conclusion of the race.
With a guaranteed $800-to-start the main event on Saturday’s HK Classic finale Team KO Racing decided to stick around and compete with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series. Utilizing the smaller 360 cubic inch power-plant Offill timed-in 22nd overall, ran sixth in his heat and claimed third in the B-main, transferring into the big dance. He went on to earn a 15th place finish in the feature and become the highest finishing 360 for the evening.
Offill also recently took part in his first career Northwest Speedweek with the Western Sprint Tour in Oregon. The team visited four new tracks in five nights and gained more valuable experience, ultimately capping the week with a seventh-place finish in the final standings. Offill earned a top-five result at Sunset Speedway Park on July 12 and celebrated his 18th birthday while competing at the Coos Bay Speedway on July 10.
“We had a great time at Northwest Speedweek and enjoyed getting to compete at some new tracks,” Offill said. “The Howard Kaeding Classic last weekend was also a successful outing for us. There was a solid field of cars on hand Friday so to run top-10 was nice and then to be the highest finishing 360 on Saturday was a positive as well. I really want to thank my family and everyone that sponsors our team for making it all possible. We are looking forward to heading back to Ocean Speedway on Friday and hope to put together a good night.”
Kyle Offill Racing would like to thank Country Builders Construction, Ochoco West, Boise Cascade, Reliable Lumber, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, B&S Hacienda Auto Body, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bacchetti Hay Service, Offill Family Farms, Octane Ink, HRP and T-Mac Motorsports for their support this season.
