Midwest trip off and running for Van Dyke Motorsports and Sammy Walsh
By Gary Thomas
Knoxville, Iowa – July 24, 2018…Van Dyke Motorsports and Australian Sprint Car driver Sammy Walsh kicked-off their assault on the Midwest this past week with a trio of events taking place in Iowa and Missouri.
Walsh and the No. 5H team opened their aggressive schedule of races by competing at the Bloomfield Speedway with the Sprint Invaders on July 19, where they ended up bringing home a seventh-place finish after starting from row five in the feature.
The following night they headed for the US 36 Raceway in Cameron, Missouri and claimed a ninth-place result during an ASCS Warrior Region sanctioned event. The Sydney, Australia wheel-man then completed the outing by tackling the famed Knoxville Raceway with the 410 power-plant under the hood last Saturday. He began the evening by timing-in 20th overall, before finishing third in his heat race and 16th in the 20-lap main event.
“Last week was a great experience and a lot of fun for all of us,” commented Walsh, who is the current track record holder at Valvoline Raceway in Sydney. “We just have to keep improving and getting better each night. Luckily, we have a lot of racing coming up with five events over the next six nights and it should allow us to gel more and more. This will be a nice warmup with the Knoxville 360 and 410 Nationals fast approaching.”
Walsh and Van Dyke Motorsports will be in action tonight at the DuBuque Speedway in DuBuque, Iowa for their annual fair race.
After that they’ll get set to run with the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions over four consecutive nights starting on Thursday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. On Friday night it will be off to the Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota followed by a return to the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. The mini-speedweek will then be caped off with an evening of competition at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
Van Dyke Motorsports would like to thank Lucas Oil Products, NAAKE Suspension and JRI West, T&T Trucking, Rafter V Farms and Hansen Machine Works for their support this season.
