(September 4, 2018) —> Tyler Smith keeps his drive for the 2018 Delta Speedway track championship alive by extending his points lead after picking up the victory Sunday night and avenging a hard-fought night one runner-up at the 5th annual Dual at Delta doubleheader.

In his quest to become champion at three different tracks, and King of California, the Delta Speedway campaign is proving to be the toughest yet. Young Caden Sarale of Stockton has managed a gap in the points that has him within striking distance with only two races remaining. For Tyler, having a title fight with a very talented young driver is keeping him on his toes.

“Sarale is always really fast and consistent at Delta,” said Smith. “There are a lot of really fast kids out here, and Sarale may be one of the best, he’s keeping me on my toes for sure.”

Saturday night, night one of the Dual at Delta it was another proven veteran of Delta Speedway who flexed his might against Smith. Brandon Carey is the 2016 Non-Wing and Wing champion of Delta Speedway and Saturday night he reminded the field of that. Carey was able to fend off a charging Smith and put himself into victory lane. Smith gave him everything he had but it wasn’t quite enough to pick up the win and contend for another two-night show sweep.

“Carey was really on it Saturday night,” said Smith. “He was really fast Saturday night, he didn’t make any mistakes and was flat flying around, I gave him everything I had but he just beat me.”

According to Smith this level of competition and the consistency of a quality race surface makes Delta worth the two-hour drive from Fresno every time. Although there is no feeling better than winning Smith has been tested on more than a few occasions this season.

“I definitely never give them away, its too much fun to win,” said Smith. “But every time I do see someone else win it stays with me all week long and it fires me up to the point I want to try and lap the field next chance I get.”

Being a two-night show it didn’t take long for Smith to get the redemption he was seeking. After suffering a loss at the hands of Brandon Carey on Saturday night, Smith came into night number two focused on avenging his loss. Night two saw another top of the board sweep as Smith qualified with quick time, won his heat, and finished the night with another trip to victory lane. It didn’t come easy, however. Fresh off of a Super and Non-Wing sweep just two weeks prior, Austin Stone and eventually Caden Sarale gave Smith all he could handle on Sunday night. While many pass attempts were made, none were successful as Smith crossed the line by .780 at the checkered. With that win, he extends his points lead to 21 over Sarale with only two points races remaining.

Next, Tyler Smith’s 2018 campaign leads him to Keller Auto Raceway, Friday Night, and Lemoore Raceway on Saturday Night, for rounds 14 and 15 of the King of California Micro Sprint series, he’s all but set to wrap that one up. Currently holding a 154 point gap over second, Ben Worth, Smith says he is still hungry as ever to win. The competition heating up makes it more fun but there is only one goal when Smith walks through the gate of a racetrack, no matter how far ahead he is in the bigger picture.

“I’m a racer, I just love to race,” said Smith. “And when I say race, I mean win.”

Tyler Smith would personally like to thank: Salmon Motorsports, Pace Chassis, Harry Boudakian Engines, UHL Rubber, Visalia Window Company, Fresno Window Company, C&K Towing, Best Weigh Scale, and his entire family for their continued support.
