Mattix Makes Return_
Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. FRESNO, Calif. (September 20, 2018) The youngest driver on the Salmon Motorsports squad, Mattix Salmon, is set to return to his number 5 Restricted 600 this weekend at the Mark Hagopian Memorial and he’s been making some serious headway.
Last time he strapped into the car at plaza his charge from 12th to 6th in the main was as impressive of a run as we have seen from the youngster. Ofcourse he did pick up the podium at Delta in June, but that charge against the king of California field displayed some serious hunger. He was aggressive and patient at the same time, and he made the right moves.
“Now if we could just get him to figure out qualifying,” said Matt Salmon. “He’s showing us he’s got the drive to get after it, he just needs to set himself up better.”
According to the team, a little bit of luck in qualifying would go a long way. They say he is showing the speed, and consistently doing so, he’s just having to make up so much ground from starting behind the eight ball with qualifying.
Another factor that plays into it is the consistency of his seat time. With outside factors getting the upper hand in dictating how often he gets to put the hammer down he is at a slight disadvantage to some drivers. But you’ll never hear him complain.
“Mattix Salmon is one driver who has the most fun at the track, whenever he is at the track. His fresh face and “roll with it,” personality provides a glimpse to why we do it in the first place,” according to an anonymous source close to the team.
“The win will come I just know it,” said Raio Salmon. “He’s showing how bad he wants it and he just keeps trying his best he will get it.”
The entire Salmon Motorsports team has all the faith in the world in young Mattix. Collectively the team believes that when he realizes his potential, it will all roll from there.
Mattix will give it another go this weekend at the Mark Hagopian Memorial. Is the win in his future?
