Ancona Wraps up Lemoore Title

SPRINT CAR INSIDER- Driver Exclusive. CONCORD, Ca. (October 1, 2018) – Joey “the Rocket” Ancona piloted his DRYCO Construction 88a to the 2018 Lemoore Raceway Super 600 title with six quick times, six wins, and five, second place finishes.

Ancona proved to be the poster child of consistency during the 2018 season at Lemoore Raceway. No matter where he started, or adversity he faced throughout the year, he found his way to the front on every occasion. Saturday night was no different. Although merely showing up wrapped up the title for him, Ancona still went for the exclamation point. The rocket once again laid down quick time over the field in his Dryco 88a. This was his sixth fast time of the season. He followed that up with making the inversion through the heat and starting the Main from the 6th spot.

Ancona made quick work of the field before taking over the lead. With lap times well ahead of the field he looked to be off to the races. But just as he made the pass for the lead he received some assistance in being spun around. Unfazed by this, Ancona began another march through the field and into the top 5, before damage sustained in the incident gave way. Ancona was charging his way to win number seven on the year as the 2018 Lemoore Raceway Super 600 champion.

In just his second full season contesting in Super 600 competition, at the age of 14, the rocket has established himself as a contender on any stage. In addition to wrapping up the title, he also became the Inaugural Jet Bowl Classic Champion and won night two of the Tachi Palace Nationals. The Jet Bowl Classic is Lemoore Raceways Hall of Fame race that pays homage to the 68-year history of the track with many Hall of Famers in attendance. Alongside Jet Bowl Classic the Palace Nationals is one of the most prestigious events on the schedule.

Winning a championship at Lemoore, Ancona adds his name to the history books alongside the likes of Jason Meyers, Gio Scelzi, Michael Faccinto, and a host of others who cut their teeth at Lemoore Raceway on their way to prominence.

Last weekend marked the final trip to Lemoore Raceway for Ancona as a full-time micro sprint driver. With the barrel already loaded, Ancona is set to pull the trigger on his sprint car racing career. But he has one more task at hand before making the jump.

The King of California Micro Sprint Series is slated to wrap up this weekend at Dixon Speedway Friday and Delta Speedway on Saturday. With a 49 point advantage over second Ancona is poised to wrap up his second title in less than a week. Should he win the King of California, he will add his name to another page in history.

Joey Ancona looks to become the first Super 600 King of California to be crowned over the four premier tracks in the state, a previously unattempted feat.

Just one point away from being an entire race ahead, should all go as planned, Ancona will contest his 360 Sprint Car Saturday night at Antioch Raceway instead of the King of California Finale. Beyond this week Ancona is set to start gathering more experience aboard the sprint car starting with the 33rd Annual Cotton Classic at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Ca.

Joey Ancona would like to cordially thank all of his sponsors for their continued support,  DRYCO Construction, Melrose Powder Coating, Factory Kahne, Steve Hamblin, Swindell Speed Labs, and CS9 Chassis.
