Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. (FRESNO, Ca) – Tyler Tj Smith earned his second major title of 2018 as well as his twenty-second win and second Super 600 victory of the season Saturday night at Lemoore Raceway.

After coming in with a nearly insurmountable points lead in the Non-Wing class the singular focus for Smith was picking up won number 22. He did just that. Except for this time, he did it with a wing.

It was a long week for Smith and the Salmon Motorsports crew as they barely picked up their non-wing car from Harry Boudakian on Saturday afternoon. As a matter of fact, they were considering running the 18 in both classes. The reasoning for running the wing car in the first place was in preparation for the upcoming Cal Cup which has an elevated purse, offering $2000 to win each class.

Saturday night started off with second quick on non-wing qualifying and third in Super 600. Smith then went out and won his non-wing heat and finished second in the wing heat.

The inversion draw landed at six and that put Smith fifth on the line up for the 30 lap non-wing main event. Smith wound up bringing the non-wing car home with the 4th spot and it was more than enough to wrap up his third track Championship in four years and second title this year.

Onto the Super 600 main event, Smith started further up the field and found his way in contention for the victory. After some early shenanigans with the field, Smith was in prime position to drive the 18 to victory lane on the nights’ headlining main event. His win at Lemoore marks win 22 on the season and win number two in the Super 600 class.

With two championships in the books and another awaiting final tally, Smiths run for 5 major championships continues this weekend with the King of California and Delta Speedway finales. The King of California title is out of reach for anyone else and will be Smiths 3rd out of 4 years and the first to accomplish the feat on all four tracks. As for the Delta championship, with an 80 point advantage, things are looking good there as well.

The five championships are California Speedweek, check, King of California, check, Lemoore Raceway, check, Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park, pretty much check, and finally Delta Speedway, last box to check.

If all goes as planned for Smith he’ll be saying Check Mate by the end of the weekend with 5 titles in hand.
