Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. FRESNO, Ca. (October 10, 2018)  Caeden Steele narrowly earned his second title of 2018 Saturday Night at Delta Speedway by doing exactly what he needed to in order to capture the tracks Restricted crown.

Coming into the night he held a slim 14 point advantage over second spelling de Ja Vu for the young driver as he just survived a pressure cooker the previous weekend at Lemoore. Perhaps his first championship triumph prepared him for the ensuing battle that would take place at Delta. Or, the fact that the race ran in conjunction with the King of California Series and the possibility of earning another win there relieved some of the pressure. Whatever the case was, Steele sealed the deal.

His weekend kicked off at Dixon Speedway for Rd 15 of the King of California series. If there were any nerves running through the Iceman on Friday night, the eve of his title run, he sure did not show it. He put the hammer down in an attempt to earn his second King of California victory of the season. However, it wasn’t meant to be after a battle at the front Steele would wind up just off the podium in the 4th spot.

Saturday was the big day for Steele. Saturday the Delta Speedway track Championship was on the line. With only a narrow 14 point lead, before throwaways, heading into the night it was apparent that each driver would need to put their best foot forward.

Caeden Steele came out clutch in qualifying by laying down a flyer that would stand for quick time. As the pressure was mounting for the two contenders, that qualifying effort was the best thing for Steele to set his night up and alleviate some of the pressure. As stacked as the California Restricted group is, putting himself at the top of the charts also served as a much welcomed confidence boost. Steele then followed it up with a third place heat finish taking solid points from that and extending his margin to a comfortable level heading into the main.

The Saturday night main event was for all the marbles. All he needed to do was finish ahead of his title combatant or keep him in his sights to lock up his second track Championship in one week. The 25-lap main event went green and the two fighting for the title found themselves wheel to wheel. Things could have easily gotten nasty but the two composed themselves. Steele elected to fall behind his rival and ride it out to the finish.

Caeden Steele crossed the finish line in 7th place and that was enough to wrap up the 2018 Delta Speedway Track Championship. In just his second year in the class Caeden Steele has become a heavy favorite anywhere he shows on top of the two titles he has to his credit. The season isn’t quite over for the Iceman as now the pressure is off and it’s all about winning. On his radar from here, Steele hopes to win the California Cup at Lemoore Raceway as well as Turkey Bowl XVIII back at Delta. Coincidentally those are the two tracks Steele earned titles at this year, can he close the book with high paying exhibition victories at each?

It’s all about continuing to build confidence from here on out heading into the Tulsa Shootout where Steele aims to grab his second Driller to go along with the 2016 Jr Sprint title.
