Gauge Garcia Geared up for Cal Cup

Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. HANFORD, Ca. (October 11, 2018) – Gauge Garcia came onto the scene this year with a vengeance.
The speed Garcia has shown lately easily pencils him in as a favorite to win this years edition of the California Cup at Lemoore Raceway this weekend.
Garcia earned multiple victories over the course of 2018 on three different tracks. His battles with the likes of Tulsa winner Corey Day, Speedweek winner Dylan Bloomfield, and Lemoore and Delta Champion Caeden Steele, became instant classics. Not to mention his unbelievable comeback which almost saw him steal the Lemoore championship from Steele has earned him a place at the top of the ranks in what is considered the nations fastest crop of young drivers.
Every time the 21 drives out on to a track, no matter which track, he is an established contender. Some of his most noteworthy battles include the one that came down to the wire at Delta Speedway during his first race of the season there when he beat the champion to be. No one will soon forget the barn burner at the Mark Hagopian Memorial where he and Corey Day exchanged slide jobs with the precision of seasoned professionals. Most recently he showcased his versatility by showing up at Dixon Speedway for the first time in two years, and first time ever in a Restricted car, and he was immediately contending for the win. Garcia once again provided the fans with a Dual for the ages with Corey Day and Dylan Bloomfield as the three went back and forth all vying for a King of California victory.

Garcia wound up with a runner-up bid on Friday night at Dixon once again behind none other than Corey Day but he did nudge Bloomfield for second place. The next night at Delta Speedway Garcia would exact some revenge on his good buddy Corey Day. He would finally turn the table and put Day on the other side of a brilliant late race charge closed with a spectacular move.
Saturday night at Delta the championship was on the line for a couple of Garcia’s closest competitors. However, for Garcia, Day and Bloomfield all they had to race for were wins. Corey Day wrapped up the king of California title and all he had left on his agenda was racking up the win total. Bloomfield had the same thought on his mind. Once again these three drivers would be the class of the field.
Garcia came away with a sixth-place qualifying effort and third in the heat. When the main event rolled around the battle was on, just not so much for the win. Bloomfield has had Delta mastered all year long and he showcased it again. But that battle that raged on behind him took everyone’s attention. Once again Corey Day and Gauge Garcia locked themselves into a slide job showdown. They left the rest of the field behind them and duked it out the entire race. Finally, coming to the finish line Garcia threw a Hail Mary in the final corner and made it stick on Day. It may not have been for the win but the satisfaction on Garcia’s face was priceless.

Outside commitments left Garcia out of Contention for many championships this year but he has been as competitive as ever every time he has shown up. He came so close to nabbing one title he could taste it. Now as we head into the offseason for racing some of the biggest one-off events in the entire sport are set to take place. After his stellar 2018 campaign, Garcia has the confidence to get the job done.
The speed Garcia has shown lately easily pencils him in as a favorite to win this years edition of the California Cup at Lemoore as well as Turkey Bowl at Delta but those aren’t his main focus. Gauge Garcia’s main focus continues to be earning the Tulsa Shootout title. With the speed, Garcia has displayed on a consistent basis this year the odds are ever in his favor. Garcia will undoubtedly be a contender for the Coveted Golden Driller based off his ability to jump in and be a threat to win anytime he showed up to a race out here.
Perhaps the most important element gained from his 2018 performance is confidence. Gauge Garcia has proven to himself that he belongs out front and he can win on any given night, against anyone. That kind of confidence is what it takes to get it done at the big races. Garcia has also proven to handle the big stage well, and not get wrapped up in the moment. All signs point in the right direction going into Tulsa. It’s all about that Driller from here on out.
He may not have gotten any titles in 2018 but he has a chance to erase that pain. If Gauge Garcia can lift a Golden Driller in January none of it’ll matter.
Gauge Garcia would like to cordially thank all of his sponsors – Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Legacy Specialties, GC Hansen INC. MasterWall Inc, Hanford Veterans of Foreign Wars, Westside Building Materials, Lewis Milinich Body Shop, BG Products, and Irrigation Matters.
