Sheriff Stops Jr Sprint Field at Turkey Bowl

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusives. HANFOR, Ca. (October 29, 2018) – Dalton the sheriff Parreira was all smiles again as he flossed inside of victory lane for the 24th time this season Saturday night at Delta Speedway’a Turkey Bowl XVIII.

It had been quite the slump for Parreira as the top spot of the podium has seemingly become a distant stranger to him. Ever since winning the Clay Cup, Parreira had been just a tad off mentally, according to his father. After coming to get the white flag and suffering a close call at another drivers expense, Parreira hasn’t quite been as aggressive as the early part of his dominant year. Although he had 23 victories, and five titles, prior to Turkey Bowl, he didn’t have the same edge.

Perhaps it was the haircut, or maybe it was ill feelings after his last outing at Delta where he suffered a DNF and nearly lost two tiles in one night, but whatever it was, the Sheriff was back on Saturday.

With a staggering field of 16 Jr. Sprints on hand for Turkey Bowl the level of competition was as high as it’s been all year. The elevated competition made it a perfect time for the Sheriff to elevate his game.

Friday night Parreira finished second in his heat race and won his qualifier. This performance had him sitting pretty going into Saturday’s extended 30-lap main event.

As the main event took off the battle was on. Caleb Debem, who recently won Cal Cup, looked to be right back to his recent ways as he showed himself as a factor early. All the way from Washington, Jayden Whitney was incredibly fast as well. Early in the going Parreira found himself sandwiched between the two running for the Turkey Bowl crown. That was until The Sherriff made the move of the race.

It was a textbook move that took the Sheriff to the top spot.

Parreira followed Debem into turn one leading him up to the top of the race track. As soon as Debem went to cover the top Parreira ducked underneath him like he was Steve Kinser and took the lead. As the Jr Sprint field raced down the back stretch the rest was history.

It wasn’t without challenge however. The Washington driver of Whitney proved to be incredibly fast but Parreira managed to thwart off his attack. At the end of 30- laps it was Dalton the Sherriff Parreira claiming the checkered flag for the 24th time in 2018.

With only a couple races left inside of the Jr Sprint time is winding down on padding the win total. After winning 12 times in 2017 and 24 in 2018, Parreira’s all-time win count stands at a mind blowing 36 feature event wins, with five major titles to boot.

The 2018 King of California has his sights set on hoisting a Golden Driller inside of the Tulsa Expo Center at the 34th Annual Tulsa Shootout in January to cap his Jr Sprint Career. Can the Sherriff flex his might in yet another jurisdiction? Stay right here on Sprint Car Insider to find out as we post the latest news, results, and up to the minute information.
