Salmon Closes Delta Season in Top 5

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusives. FRESNO, Ca. (October 30, 2018) – Raio Salmon walked away from Turkey Bowl XVIII at Delta Speedway with a top-5 to close out her year on the 1/7th mile oval.

Salmon was in the hunt all weekend long. She kicked off Turkey Bowl with a 5th place in her first heat. She proceeded to drive herself to a qualifier victory and top 5 in points. Her point earning effort also landed her directly into Saturday’s pole shuffle.

After another pole shuffle earlier this season at the Mark Hagopian Memorial Salmon was able to bring her experience up to Delta and once again upset some prominent contenders.

She started with Keith Day Jr as the first pair and managed to stay on track until Cody Christensen knocked her out of the race while contesting for a front row starting spot. Coincidentally, it was Christensen who eliminated her at the MHM as well. However she was able to beat Keith Day Jr, 2014 Delta champion Travis Labat, and eventual winner Ben Worth, before being eliminated. The 2018 Super 600 runner up stole the show in the shuffle.

Her third place effort in the shuffle would put her inside of row two heading into the 40-lap finale. The race went green and the battling ensued. Salmon was able to maintain a top five bid throughout the 40-lap affair as thick lapped traffic played a significant outcome on the field.

At the end of 40 laps Raio Salmon walked away with 4th place to end her season at Delta Speedway in the top 5. After capturing three wins at Delta in 2018 and runner up in the championship, her fourth place on Saturday accounts for her 27th top five of her overall season.

Raio Salmon became a prominent contender at Delta Speedway each time she hit the track in 2018. She led the points battle for a significant amount of the year and regularly found real estate on the podium. Another top 5 caps off her season and the Salmon Motorsports #21 will surely be a contender for the title in 2019.

Salmon goes into the off-season with confidence after a career year. With the year she’s had she may just make another trip out to the Tulsa Expo Center to improve upon her 2015 3rd place finish in the Outlaw 600 class at the Tulsa Shootout.
