Tied Down Turkey Bowl for Caleb Debem

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusives. PRUNEDALE, Ca. (October 30, 2018) – Caleb Debem was on his way to another masterful performance to cap his year of at Delta Speedway until he was struck with a mobility issue.

Debem was on fire Friday night, night one of Turkey Bowl XVIII. He won his heat and his qualifier to earn high points going into the 30-lap finale on Saturday. After night one it appeared as if the stars were aligning for Debem to capture another high-paying premier race title.

Saturday night saw Debem start from the pole of the Jr Sprint feature. He showed the way early and looked to be in prime position to be there at the end until he was locked down. Quite literally he was locked down according to his father Peter.

“He had issues with his arm restraints Saturday,” said Peter Debem. “They kept catching the inside of his body panel and frame on the carburetor, he couldn’t steer the car because of it.”

Debem said further that all he could do was just keep the car from sliding up. He managed to keep the car on the bottom but in order to keep himself from possibly wrecking another driver he played it safe.

For playing it safe and suffering the issues that he did, Debem still drove around in contention. Finally on the last lap he spun loose and ripped his arm restraints off. He mentioned they kept him locked to the left and it was all he could. Despite the issues Debem still pulled in a solid 6th place finish.

In his last career Jr Sprint race at Delta he almost captured the crown of the Curtain Closer. He’s began to make that a theme as he has padded his win total quite well over the last month. With the help of Doug Silva, Debem is showing vast improvement. They look to start 2019 off on the right foot as he makes his transition to the Restricted 600 class.

But not before he goes for a Driller. If all goes as planned the team has hopes of making it to Tulsa this January to give the Golden Driller a run. This would be Debem’s first career Tulsa Shootout.
