Garcia Going for the Glory

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusive. TULSA, Okla. (December 31, 2018) Gauge Garcia is primed and prepped to debut as one of the factory drivers for the all-new TEN-J Chassis company at the 34th Annual Tulsa Shootout.

Coming into the granddaddy of all Micro Sprint races Gauge Garcia finds himself with the opportunity of a lifetime representing one of the hottest companies on the rise – TEN-J Chassis.

“I’m really excited to run the TEN-J in Tulsa,” said Garcia. “My confidence is higher than its ever been after this year and I’m so grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given, I hope to make them proud.”

According to the Garcia family, and Gauge himself, it’s like the switch just flipped this year. He went from good, to top contender on any given weekend on the drop of a hat, the only thing on his mind is winning. That’s what they have come to Tulsa in search of, the Coveted Golden Driller. The opportunity to run for Shawn Smith and TEN-J Chassis has been a deal in the works for quite some time as well. In fact the very first race with the assistance of Shawn Smith in 2018 may be Garcia’s claim to fame this past season – the night he took Delta by storm in route to his first win on his first appearance at the track of the season. It was just one week after the Clay Cup.

That is where It all began, – back at the Clay Cup Nationals. That’s when TEN-J associate, Shawn Smith, took a notice to Garcia and his driving style.

“The kid is aggressive,” said Smith. “That’s the kind of driver we want in the car. Not only is he aggressive but he’s in control, I know that when he’s pushing, he’s not going over his head, he’s capable of maintaining that kind of charge.”

According to Smith, Garcia represents one of the best Restricted drivers in the nation and that is why he will be representing TEN-J Chassis at the biggest race of them all.

“We are coming here to win just like any other race,” said lead fabricator, Jerrod Huckleberry. “We only put drivers in the seat that we know have a chance to bring home Drillers.”

Garcia boasts one of his best seasons to date coming into the Shootout. He won on four occasions in 2018, got 8 quick times, and out of 37 main events finished in the top ten 31 times. Among his 31 top tens, 24 of them were inside of the top 5, and 10 of them were runner up bids.

The strength of the Restricted class in California during 2018 showcased some of the nations most decorated racers. Drivers like reigning Shootout Champion, Corey Day, 3x Clay Cup Champion Colby Thornhill, 2018 Speedweek Champion Dylan Bloomfield, and Jr Sprint Shootout Champion, Caeden Steele, were amongst the competition every week. With that kind of lineup every main event of the season was like a mini Shootout.

Garcia has a story to tell about an individual bout with each of the drivers listed over the course of the season in which he comes out on top. Garcia really elevated his game in 2018 and comes into the 34th Annual Tulsa Shootout as one of the preeminent contenders in the Restricted class.

Gauge Garcia will contest in the Restricted A-Class for TEN-J Chassis inside of the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma in search of a Golden Driller beginning just two days from now on January 2nd. Main Events for the Shootout will take place on January 5th.
