Garcia Got it Done in Heat One

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusive. TULSA, Okla. (January 3, 2019) Gauge Garcia became the first TEN-J driver in history to take a checkered flag inside of the River Spirit Expo Center in his first Restricted A-Class heat race of the 34th Annual Tulsa Shootout.

Garcia took his Legacy Specialties, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, brand new TEN-J Chassis to victory from the the 5th starting position in Wednesday nights Restricted A-class heat race.

This win for Garcia writes another page in the history books for himself and the brand. Not only was it his first heat race of the weekend, being his TEN-J debut, the heat was the first green flag ever seen in the car for Garcia. Now he will forever remain the first TEN-J driver to earn a win of any sort at the most coveted race in Micro Sprint competition.

Gauge Garcia has seemingly adapted well. In practice to the naked eye his comfort was evident. He could drive the car wherever he wanted to take it. He would strut that skill come Race time too.

He started from 5th and got rolling patiently as the pack ahead of him was all over the place. He got a big push from behind coming into turn one on lap two that could have been devastating. But Garcia held onto his composure and began picking off the field one-by-one just after. He gathered it back up and made a pass going down the back stretch.

Half way trough the heat he found himself in 3rd staring down the leaders. As the race drew to a close Garcia moved his preferred line up the racetrack and took the momentum to his advantage.

As the field came to get the white flag Garcia railed around the outside to overtake the lead. He kept his foot to floor without looking back as he came across the stripe victorious. His win from 5th is just what he needed to get the beat out of the ASCS/Shootout format in which passing points are weighed on heavily.

Of the 89 entries drivers are vying to land in the top 48 to advance directly to Qualifiers. It’s safe to say Garcia will be comfortably within the top 48 and looks to deliver more of the same tomorrow night to see if he can advance directly into the Driller paying main event.
