Torgerson Bros Gain Confidence Heading into Micro Season

Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusive. PHOENIX, Ariz. (February 24, 2019) > On the heels of a last minute decision the Torgerson brothers went back to their roots and raced Karts at Phoenix Kart Racing Association Today.

After making the trip out to the home state of Arizona with dwarf cars on the schedule a minor mishap caused the team to call an audible. Since they were already in the area, the boys decided to go turn some laps with some very familiar competition.

Both Ashton and Austin are multi-time Kart winners and Champions, who have been all over the world racing Karts. A quick trip back to their roots would offer some the opportunity to gather some of that all important confidence heading into their maiden California full-time campaign.

Racing in the Briggs LO26 Sr. division Austin went out and set quick time on lap 8 with a 41.216 on the vintage .7 mile configuration. Newly nicknamed, Crashton Ashton, after his rollover in Wisconsin last weekend in the mini monster truck, had been on the mend all week long preparing for the Dwarf Car race. But when it was his car who wouldn’t start, Crashton Ashton knew exactly what would alleviate his pain.

Ashton started off the day on the right foot, literally, in the Briggs LO26 Jr Division. Like he’s never left at all Ashton set quick time on lap number four with a blistering 40.252 lap time, on the .7 mile vintage configuration. He would parlay that qualifying momentum into a weekend sweep. Ashton came across the stipe as the winner today in the L026 Jr. division and you can bet his back pain is back in Wisconsin.

Austin had the opportunity to make a Torgerson sweep of the weekend at PKRA but fell just short. Also QuickTime in his L026 Sr division he came into the main event as a favorite. As the race went on Austin was able to maintain a podium finish winding up 3rd.

That’s a wrap on Torgerson Racing’s weekend of Kart Racing at PKRA instead of the Western States Mini Dwarf Nationals at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Arizona. Next weekend, a well earned week off from racing is on the schedule before they climb back in the mini monster trucks in Medford, Oregon on March 1 & 2. They follow that up with another Mini Monster Truck bout in Redman, Oregon before beginning their highly anticipated Micro Sprint season with the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals from Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park in Visalia, California, March 22-23, 2019.
