Kyle Offill displays speed and nets top-five finish at season opener in Stockton
By Gary Thomas
Stockton, CA – February 26, 2019…Kicking-off his third season of Winged Sprint Car racing this past weekend at the Stockton Dirt Track, Kyle Offill was able to rebound from an opening lap incident to carve his way forward and earn a top-five finish in the feature.
Last Saturday’s event was the second non-sanctioned Winged 360 Sprint Car show of the season at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds venue and the first that Offill took part in. A modified ASCS style format was utilized with double heat races contested. The 18-year-old lined up in the final row of his opening heat race and moved forward to finish in fourth.
With the second set of heats fully inverted he then found himself on the front row and proceeded to dominate the eight-lapper, winning by over two seconds aboard the Country Builders Construction/ Ochoco West/ Bacchetti Hay Service No. 2K machine. “I felt really comfortable in that second heat race and it was nice to get out front for some clean air,” Offill said. “Stockton is one of the largest and fastest tracks we run at in California and I think we definitely hit on something in that heat.”
The Tracy, California racer lined up in the second row for the 30-lap main event but caught a hole off the second corner on the opening lap that left him parked off the back stretch. After restarting at the rear of the field he carved his way forward in a race that went non-stop the final 27-laps and made a late pass to record a fifth-place result at the checkered. It marked his best career Stockton Dirt Track finish and his first top-five effort at the 4/10 mile clay oval.
“All in all, it was a solid outing to open the season for us,” commented Offill. “I was bummed after getting into the rough stuff on the start and wish we could have held our ground up front, because we had a strong car all day. It’s a great feeling knowing that our crew chief Jonathan Allard is building quality cars and we picked right up where we left off last year. I felt fast and confident right from the opening heat race and look forward to keeping that momentum going. Thank you to JA, Dillon Paddock and all of our partners for making it possible.”
Offill’s plans for this season will see him competing on Friday nights at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, along with running full-time with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards. He will also mix in some Winged 410 Sprint Car events when the schedule permits.
“I think we have a really good schedule lined out this year,” he said. “I love running at Silver Dollar Speedway and Jonathan has so much knowledge of that place, which should certainly benefit the whole team. It will also be fun to compete regularly once again with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. A couple years ago we won Rookie of the Year with SCCT, so it will be fun to see where we stack up with another season under our belts.”
This Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, will find Team KO Racing in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the Winged 360 Sprint Car “Silver Cup Race of Champions.”
Kyle Offill Racing would like to thank Country Builders Construction, Ochoco West, Boise Cascade, Reliable Lumber, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, B&S Hacienda Auto Body, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bacchetti Hay Service, Offill Family Farms, Octane Ink, HRP and T-Mac Motorsports for their support this season.
