STRONG SHOWING FOR TORGERSON IN MICRO SPRINT OPENER
Sprint Car Insider: MEDFORD, Ore. (March 26, 2019) – > Ashton Torgerson kicked off his 2019 Micro Sprint season by improving every time he hit the track and finishing the weekend as a contender to win during the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals last weekend at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park.
Torgerson made the long trip down from Medford, Oregon to contest in the Restricted and Super Stock Classes at Keller Auto Raceway’s season opening Budweiser Outlaw Nationals last weekend. The Outlaw Nationals were the long awaited first race behind the wheel of his all-new D1/Driven Performance #02 Micro Sprint. After an off-season full of Mini monster trucks, a win back in the Kart in Phoenix, it was a welcomed return to micro sprint racing for Torgerson.
“The micro sprint is probably my favorite thing to race,” said Torgerson. “Racing in California is always fun because the competition is so tough, and that’s how you learn, by racing the best.”
The Outlaw Nationals kicked off Friday Night at the oval in Visalia, California. For Torgerson, being one of the younger drivers in the Stock class, and one of the few still running Restricted, it was apparent he’d have his work cut out for him, but he gave it a triumphant go. It was 11th quick in Stock qualifying Friday night followed by sixth in his heat for the Stock class. Although the troubles came from a throttle issue that plagued the team all night long in the their stock class car.
In the Restricted class qualifying Torgerson wound up 17th quick as they battled a fuel pressure issue. As they worked on the car continuously throughout the night, Ashton came out of his heat with a resounding top 5.
Main Events on night one gave the indication that though they were fighting gremlins, Torgerson had much more in the tank and he was finding it. In his Restricted main event, Ashton drove his way into the top ten, earning a respectable 9th place finish. The Stock main event didn’t bode quite as well, but he came back Saturday night displaying a night and day difference, especially since they were able to work out the small mechanical kinks on the car.
Night two of the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals was a whole new ballgame for Ashton Torgerson. He qualified inside of the top 10 in Stock and ran a brilliant 3rd quick in Restricted. The night was shaping up well in the favor of Ashton Torgerson.
Ashton followed up his qualifying performance with another 3rd in the Restricted heat and 6th in the Stock heat. Going into the final main events of the weekend Torgerson had earned plenty of reasons to hold his head high.
With every race on the track Torgerson improved dramatically. The final Stock Class main of the weekend saw Torgerson mix it up inside of the top ten and bring home the tenth place finish.
But it was the Restricted finale that indicates that Torgerson will be on the top step of the podium in no time. He was lightning fast and ultra aggressive. The Saturday Restricted main event saw Ashton Torgerson drive with that Kart-like confident form. He wheeled the 02 at the front of the pack the entire race. In the end he just missed the top five bringing home the 6th position.
In all the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals leave many reasons for Torgerson to bring confidence back to the Golden State for the next outing. Every time he hit the track he stepped his game up more and more.
Torgerson Racing will be back in the Golden State for the 2nd Annual Jet Bowl Classic at Lemoore Raceway on April 5-6. Ashton will be back behind the wheel of his #02 D1 in the Super Stock and Restricted classes once again.
At this time it still looks to be a while before his brother Austin can climb back behind the wheel
Of his PMP in the Super 600 and Non Wing classes as he is still healing from an injury sustained in the Mini Monster Truck. However the time table is subject to change as he is seeking a second opinion in the coming days.
