BARNES SWEEPS JET BOWL CLASSIC

Sprint Car Insider- LEMOORE, Calif. (April 9, 2019) – Jett Barnes won his fourth out of five Jr Sprint races in 2019, and for the first time at Lemoore Raceway last weekend, as part of his sweep of the Second Annual Jet Bowl Classic.

Coming into the weekend Jett Barnes had never crossed the finish line first at Lemoore Raceway. While he’s won in every other Micro Sprint track, something about lemoore had always eluded him. His family had even dubbed it: “The Kings Country Curse.”

Well the curse has been broken.

“I don’t know why but things had just never gone our way there,” said Nick Barnes, Jett’s dad. “I don’t think he’ll be discouraged driving into that place anymore, hopefully all the bad luck at Lemoore is behind us.”

It all started Friday night with another field of fast Jr Sprint racers ready to tackle the 2019 opener at Lemoore. Barnes immediately set the tone by timing in first during single car qualifying. He then advanced through the heat and gave the fans the action they were looking for during the main.

In another edge of your seat Showdown Jett maintained the runner up position for the first 19 3/4 of the race. He looked to have Second wrapped up when everything changed coming to the checkers.

They say you race all the way to the checkers and Jett showed why.

Coming out of turn four the leader got caught up in lapped traffic and had to make a sudden adjustment. He checked up but was blocked again. Meanwhile Barnes kept his foot on the gas and field of vision on the flag. He diced through the commotion and passed the leader in doing so.

Jett Barnes lead the last 100 ft of the race and stole the checkered flag to win his first race at Lemoore Raceway.

Friday Night became Jett’s third win of the season but there was more on the line Saturday. Barnes came into night two of the Jet Bowl Classic with a resounding opportunity to win the overall championship. However it would not come without adversity.

In hotlaps Saturday the unthinkable happened. Jett blew the motor in his Jr Sprint with only minutes to go before the racing portion of the evening got ready to go. It was all hands on deck as Nick ripped one MCR motor from the TEN-J Chassis and slid a fresh MCR right back where it does its best work.

After a complete motor swap Jett still managed to make the call for qualifying. As if nothing ever happened Barnes went out and once again lit up the scoreboard with quick time. Nothing could stop the roll Barnes was setting to go on.

He made it through the heat and into the trophy dash. After a small discrepancy in the dash Barnes allowed his biggest competitor to nab the pole for the Jet Bowl finale but it did not faze him one bit.

As the main got under way it did not take long for Barnes to find his way to the front. Saturday was a completely different story than Friday. On Saturday, Jett made quick work of the field and checked out. He dominated the Jet Bowl Classic finale en route to his fourth win in five races and the 2019 Jet Bowl Classic Title.

“I think we definitely found something,” said Nick Barnes. “We went wholesale change before the night began and I think it made all the difference.”

Jett Barnes will be in action next aboard the number 55 TEN-J Jr Sprint at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park Friday night for race three in the track championship series. Friday night Barnes comes in with his opportunity ton win his fifth out of six Jr Sprint races.
