Sprint Car Insider: LEMOORE, Calif. (April 10, 2019) – Cash and Ty Lovenburg came away from the Second Annual Jet Bowl Classic at Lemoore Raceway with top 6 finishes Friday and top 5 Saturday during the season opening double header.

Friday Night both boys hit the track for racing action for the first time this season. In qualifying Cash came away with 2nd quick with a 13.790 lap time. Ty wound up 6th on the scoresheet. Their qualifying efforts would set the charge going into the rest of the night.

The Jr Sprint class will be running single car qualifying and only one heat race this year similarly to what Plaza Park is running. In the first heat race of the Lemoore Raceway campaign Cash brought the 21 home with a runner up bid while Ty earned another 6th on the night.

Maintaining the theme of the night both boys would start the 20-lap main event from the exact positions they had earned in both previous events on the night. Cash drove off from 2nd and Ty from 6th.

The race went green and Cash jumped to the early lead. He started to pull away as the race sustained a long green flag run. Meanwhile Ty was battling hard for a top 5 finish. Half way passed and Cash still held strong out front, Ty the 6th spot. As the race drew near a close Cash was in promising position to win his second main event of the year. Then it all fell apart.

Coming to the checkered flag with the lead Cash got bunched up in a group of lapped drivers bouncing off of eachother. Cash made the quick decision to check up and it was the wrong one. For the second time this season victory was stolen right from the grasps of Cash’s hands.

After the official conclusion of the nights event official postings list. Cash as 2nd and Ty as 4th. But the weekend wasn’t over. Both boys had another go at it Saturday night. Saturday night the Jet Bowl Classic title was on the line.

“Yeah that one hurt this weekend,” said Cash Lovenburg. “I was just going and I had to try and get around those cars but I let Jett sneak under me and he got the win.”

Saturday night fired off with its own adversity. Right out of the gate Cash was noticeably down on speed. As he limped around the track and pulled in from hot Laps early everyone collectively preyed that it wasn’t catastrophic.

It ended up being a fixable issue with the axle but it was still detrimental in the qualifying effort. Cash officially scored 9th quick on Saturday after the issue. Ty posted an impressive 4th quick to get his night rolling.

The problems followed Cash into the heat race causing him to pull in and score a DNF while Ty earned another 4th on the night.

The trophy dash changed everything for Cash. He gained invaluable confidence back after drawing the sixth starting spot and valiantly fighting through the field to take the win. That win earned him the pole position for the Saturday main event despite all the early problems. Ty picked up another fourth and the Lovenburg boys rolled off for the 20-lap main from 1st and 4th positions.

Cash had the opportunity to erase the gremlins of the night and turn them a complete one-eighty. But unfortunately after his standout dash performance, the gremlins crept back up. As the main event got underway the mechanical issues resurfaced costing valuable tenths a lap that Cash unequivocally knew he had in himself.

Despite the troubles, Cash hung on to the runner up spot. Showing wisdom beyond his years Cash took care of his car with the bigger picture in mind. Regardless of the issues Cash was able to bring home another second place finish on the season.

Ty held steady for 20-laps and brought the 01t home with a solid top 5, landing 5th. After what could have been disastrous Cash Lovenburg salvaged a good run and keeps himself very much alive in the points battle. Ty also continued to show improvement finishing closer and closer to the leaders with every race.

Lovenburg Racing is back in action this weekend at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park for race 3 of their track championship series. Cash still has aspirations of winning the Jr Sprint title there as well so point will be at a premium from here on out. The battle is on.
