Sprint Car Insider- LEMOORE, Calif. (April 11, 2019) – Bryson Bettencourt drove to a runner up finish during Lemoore Raceway’s Second Annual Jet Bowl Classic last weekend.
But if there’s a driver on the track who’s just inches away from nabbing that first W of the season, it’s Bettencourt. Since moving out of the Restricted class and into Stock, Bettencourt has been either on the podium, or in contention for the podium, at all four races.
He kicked the season off with a stout second place finish at night one of the Outlaw Nationals. He’s followed that up with brilliant runs, and right now is sitting on the cusps of finding victory lane.
“Were almost there,” Bettencourt said. “Just need a couple things to go our way but I feel really good, the car is awesome, and I know I can get it done.”
It just about happened at the Jet Bowl Classic.
Friday night, night one, Bettencourt started his weekend by qualifying fourth quick. He improved in his heat race by earning third. When the 25-lap Stock 600 main event rolled onto the track Bettencourt was ready to battle.
The race went green and things settled in a bit. As it came down to the closing stages Bettencourt found something. With just laps to go he was reeling in the leader. As they went through traffic he could smell blood in the water. He navigated traffic with superior precision and moved right up to the back of the leader. But it was too late.
Bettencourt brought the 15 home with another solid runner up bid to kick off the second Annual Jet Bowl Classic. It wasn’t over however. Saturday night was a new opportunity. It was a new opportunity to go for that coveted first win of the season, and first win outside of the Restricted class.
Saturday night started off brilliantly. It was QUIICK TIIIME for the 15. The ball was rollin and the stage was set.
The heat race saw the 15 come home where it started in 4th. He locked down the outside pole for the main event with his second place finish in the dash. Then it was on to the Stock 600 finale from the Jet Bowl Classic. With the winner take all scenario ahead of him, Bettencourt stared down an opportunity to win the overall event championship on top of a race win.
The green flag dropped and he held down second. After being in the hunt all weekend it just wasn’t quite enough on Saturday night. Bettencourt came home with another runner up finish. Although it’s not the result he’s been looking for he is unequivocally the most consistent driver in the Stock class. With three seconds and four top tens in just four races things are going well for Bettencourt in this early part of the season.
He’s been knocking on the door. Only one more box sits left to check at this stage in 2019 and that’s grabbing a win. Early season performance tells us it’s not far away. Watch for Bryson Bettencourt to land in victory lane soon. Once he does the competition may be in trouble, because he’s been lightning fast every time he shows up already.
Catch Bryson Bettencourt in action Friday night as he takes on the stock class once again at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park for Round three of the track championship season.
