Lovenburg Wins With Heavy Heart
Sprint Car Insider- VISALIA, Calif. (April 15, 2019) – Cash Lovenburg had an angel riding with him on his way to the Jr Sprint victory Friday night at Race 3 of Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park’s Track Championship series.
Coming into the third race of the season at Plaza Cash already had a victory to his credit. It was actually his lone victory so far, although he could easily of had three victories to that point, things hadn’t panned out. But just before the race weekend began, tragedy struck.
Just the day before the race Cash and Ty Lovenburg lost their great grandfather Earl. The family didn’t even know if they wanted to race. The boys were really close to their great grandfather and their emotions were deeply affected. But they decided they wanted to go get the job done for him.
“Cash was bound and determined to get it done this weekend,” Brandon Lovenburg said. “With all the close race losses and then his great grandfather that he’s named after, Cash wasn’t going to lose this weekend, not with an angel riding with him.”
Cash ended up driving to a clean sweep of the weekend and it all started with qualifying. Cash put the 21 on top of the board early and it stayed there. Ty came home sixth quick on the night at Plaza.
Onto the heat race Cash let the field know early that he was going to be tough to beat. He cruised to the heat race win with the quickest lap of the race and his brother Ty followed with a solid top 5.
In the 20-lap main event Cash showed the way as he rolled off from the pole. He lost the lead going into turn one but quickly mounted an attack and took back the point after a fierce battle on lap four. Once Cash got in the lead he did not look back. It was a dominant run for the 21. In fact, he turned eight laps with a faster lap time than that of the fastest lap posted by the second fastest driver.
After all of the close losses Cash was not going to be denied on this night. He especially wasn’t going to be denied while he had an angel riding with him.
“It went just the way I was hoping it would go after all the emotions they were experiencing,” Brandon Lovenburg said. “There were no more mechanical issues, no more mental issues, he put this one together. Right now he’s got the perfect amount of confidence.”
That’s two wins in six races now for Cash. Both wins have come at Plaza Park. For Ty he finished this weekend just outside of the top five marking his sixth top 10 of the season. Each week Ty Lovenburg continues to show improvement and the lap times indicate that after his brother got around him near the end he stepped it up again. His laptimes show a steady increase between the laps before his
brother caught him in comparison to after.
According to Brandon Lovenburg the season is going in accordance to plan and the entire team is optimistic moving forward. Next weekend the team will take off to enjoy some quality family time but Lovenburg Racing will be back in action on two weeks for Race 4 at Keller Auto Raceway on Friday April 26 and Race 3 at Lemoore Raceway on Saturday April 27.
