Jesse Love rebounds from rear to score 11th place finish at Placerville Speedway
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA – April 22, 2019…Making an unscheduled appearance at the Placerville Speedway this past Saturday 14-year-old driver Jesse Love rebounded after getting over the edge early on and brought home an 11th place finish in the 25-lap feature.
Love was originally planning to make his debut with Keith Kunz Motorsports in Illinois, but mother nature had other ideas and he hopped on a plane back to California to climb aboard the Van Dyke Motorsports/ Lucas Oil No. 5H at Placerville Speedway.
A solid field of 28 Winged 360 Sprint Cars were on hand Saturday, in what marked Love’s third career start at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds quarter-mile. He began the evening by qualifying 14th fastest overall, before finishing sixth in his heat race, forcing him into the B-main. Love settled into second early on and then made a beautiful pass of veteran Mike Benson to grab the lead that he wouldn’t relinquish.
The Menlo Park, California racer lined-up outside row six in the feature and was running ninth when he got locked into a three-wide battle, which resulted in him getting knocked over the edge to bring out a caution on lap-seven. After going to the rear he was able to work his way back up to 11th by the time the checkered flag flew.
“The track was definitely slicker than it had been the first couple races at Placerville, but we had a great car that I could put anywhere on the surface,” said Love. “We were running in the top-10 at the time of the incident but luckily was able to pick my way back forward from the rear to get 11th. I would have liked to see where we could have ended up without being forced to the rear, but on the bright side we continue making gains. I look forward to getting some midget experience in the Midwest before heading back to California for the Peter Murphy Classic in Tulare.”
The next scheduled event for Van Dyke Motorsports will be the annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial weekend at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway with Clarksburg’s Justyn Cox behind the wheel. Friday May 3rd will feature a non-sanctioned Winged 410 Sprint Car program as part of the annual Bill Brownell Memorial, while Saturday May 4th is the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series sanctioned 29th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
Van Dyke Motorsports would like to thank Lucas Oil Products, NAAKE Suspension and JRI West, T&T Trucking, Rafter V Farms, Hansen Machine Works, DMI, AL Driveline, Moyle Engines and Rod End Supply for their support this season.
