Kyle Offill tallies top-five finish at Jimmy Sills Classic in Stockton
By Gary Thomas
Stockton, CA – May 29, 2019…Heading to the Stockton Dirt Track this past Saturday Tracy, California’s Kyle Offill and Team KO Racing persevered through some adversity midway through the program to eventually cap the night with a top-five finish in the 35-lap feature.
The event last weekend marked the fourth annual “Jimmy Sills Classic” at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, honoring the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee. A modified ASCS style format was utilized for the non-sanctioned Winged 360 Sprint Car event, which saw qualifying scrapped in favor of double heat races.
Offill kicked-off the night on a solid note as he brought home a runner up finish to Shane Golobic in his opening heat aboard the Country Builders Construction/ Ochoco West/ Reliable Lumber/ Boise Cascade No. 2K machine. As the checkered flag flew however, smoke began emitting from the car. When arriving back to the pit area it was found that he suffered a blown engine and the team went to work on swapping power-plants.
With the race program moving along at a brisk pace, the engine change wasn’t completed by the time his second heat race rolled out, which resulted in a DNS. Even despite not getting a second heat the 18-year-old still found himself with the ninth highest point total heading into the feature, lining him up inside row five. At the waving of the green flag Offill began to dice it up with several competitors as he battled his way towards the top-five.
After 35-laps of hard-fought competition Offill crossed the stripe in fifth behind DJ Netto, Shane Golobic, Kalib Henry and Willie Croft. “It was a good night for the whole team last Saturday in Stockton,” Offill commented. “We were really good in the first heat race and then unfortunately blew the engine, which caused us to miss the second one. I can’t thank Jonathan Allard and everyone enough that helped us get it changed in time for the feature. I also want to give a huge thanks to Maibes Motorsports for their help on Saturday. It was nice to end the evening with a top-five.”
Plans for this weekend are still up in the air with the next scheduled events set for Friday June 7th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, followed by the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday June 8th. The trip to Tulare will be for the conclusion of the annual Peter Murphy Classic, which fell victim to rain a few weeks ago.
Kyle Offill Racing would like to thank Country Builders Construction, Ochoco West, Reliable Lumber, Boise Cascade, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, FK Rod Ends, HRP, T-Mac Motorsports, Moyle Race Engines, Smith Titanium Products, FK Shocks, Hinchman Race Wear, Arai Helmets, A.R.T.
