Solid Points Night for Courtnier at Delta

Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. ELK GROVE, Calif. (July 30, 2019) – > Devon Courtnier qualified fastest and picked up a third place finish Saturday night at Delta Speedway allowing him to maintain the Restricted points lead.

When Devon Courtnier wheeler his number 34 D1 to the Delta Speedway Race 7 victory he did more than earn his fourth victory of the season. That win put him atop the Delta Speedway Restricted class points standings with six races to go. Going into Saturday’s action, Courtnier came into the night with a four point advantage over second.

The battle has been close all year, if Devon doesn’t beat his title combatant, he needs to finish within striking distance of him at all costs. Saturday night – that’s exactly what he did.

Right out of the trailer the 34 picked up where he left off at the San Joaquin County fairgrounds. He went quick time by a mile after laying down a blistering 10.161 lap time. Qualifying first was pivotal in his ability to maintain the points lead following round 8.

In his heat race he was able to charge from the fourth position up to second. Going into the main event the inversion drew a zero and the field lined up strait up by qualifying times. This put the 34 on the pole of the 25-lap Delta Speedway Race 8 Restricted main event.

As the field came to the flag Courtnier showed the way with his title rival just to his outside. He was unable to maintain the top spot but he filed into third and kept his championship competition in his sights the whole race. By the time the field crossed the checkers Courtnier was able to hang on to third earning his 8th podium of the year.

With that podium the margin in the points shrunk to three, but Courtnier maintains his position at the top. The stat line on the 34 also improves to 14 starts, four wins, eight podiums, nine top fives, and twelve top tens.

Up next the 34 goes to battle at Delta Speedway once again this Saturday. Race 9 for Delta Speedway hits the track Saturday night, August 3rd and the 34 will enter the night with a three point lead over second. With five rounds remaining it’s going to take consistency, top level performances, and maybe even all-out winning. The season is going down to the wire and the next installment in the fight for the Restricted title hits the track this weekend.
