Top Ten Highlights Courtnier’s Saturday Night
Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider – Driver Exclusive. ELK GROVE, Calif. (August 20, 2019) – > Devon Courtnier left Delta Speedway Saturday night with a sixth place finish in the Restricted 600 class.
Although he lost a spot in the standings the margin is closer than ever between the top three. Courtnier now sits third, but only 12 markers out of the lead. With four races to go in the Delta Speedway track championship, he is well within striking distance.
After Saturday night Courtnier now has 13 top ten finishes in 17 starts. Along with 13 top tens he has four wins in the 2019 campaign, eight podiums, and nine top fives. Priority number one for the number 34 this year is taking home the Delta Speedway Restricted class Championship.
Saturday night started off with sixth quick in qualifying. Not the best result according to the standard set by Courtnier, who is usually a prime time qualifier. But he is maintaining his consistency, even on his off-nights, which is key to winning titles.
He came home third in his heat race which advanced him directly into the evenings main event. He started the 25 lap feature from the 5th position.
It became the perfect night to make up ground when the series points leader had his troubles and found himself sustaining a DNF. Rather than going for broke with the opportunity to gain maximum points, Courtnier drove a smart race. Although he lost a spot, with the opportunity presented in front of him, he could have tried to do more than what he had in store Saturday night with disastrous potential. Instead he kept his head down and put together a strong sixth place finish.
With just four races remaining Courtnier is third in the standings just 12 points down. The Delta Speedway track championship resumes in two weeks on August 31.
Courtnier will be back in action behind the wheel of the number 34 D1 at race 11. In fact, it will be the next time the 34 is in action. Race 11 from Delta Speedway will be his 18th start of the season. He’ll be looking to grab his fifth win while making up 12 points.
