Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. TULARE, Calif. (August 26, 2019)- Bryson Bettencourt picked up his fifth Stock 600 win of the 2019 season Friday night at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park.
On the opposite end of the spectrum he also endured his season low finish the next night at Lemoore Raceway.
With a glass half-full outlook his season low finish comes in at sixth place. Despite his finish on Saturday he still maintains the points lead in Stock 600 at both Lemoore and Plaza. At Plaza Park he owns a 76 point advantage with three races remaining. At Lemoore he currently holds a 74 point lead with three races remaining.
Bettencourt has 18 stock 600 races under his belt this season. Out of his 18 features, Bettencourt has five wins, 17 top fives, and 18 top tens. He was going for a full season of top fives but that came to an end Saturday night. However, having a season low finish of 6th is virtually unheard of, it’s been a banner year for Bryson Bettencourt.
His most recent victory came Friday night at Plaza Park.
Friday night kicked off with quick time in qualifying. He had the momentum rolling out of the box Friday night. He followed up his quick time performance with the heat race victory. With only his 25-lap main event left to run he was on his way to a night sweep.
Bettencourt started from the pole in Friday nights main event and that was the last the field saw of him. He was challenged early by a surging 4g to no avail. Bettencourt held court (no pun intended) and withstood the pressure. He held on to take his fifth win of 2019 and third at Plaza.
Saturday night the team travelled over to Lemoore Raceway with hopes of garnering their third weekend sweep of the season. To this point of the season Bryson had followed up each Friday night victory with a Saturday night repeat.
In qualifying it looked as if he was on his way to doing so yet again. Bettencourt turned in quick time. He ran third in the heat and landed the pole for his main event.
“I got a bad start and then felt a little tap,” Bettencourt said. “I didn’t recover very well and it cost me the finish I felt good enough for, but that’s racing, it wasn’t intentional.”
Bettencourt started up front but a bad start lead to being tapped from behind and going through the infield. He was never able to get back into the top 5. At the end of 25 laps Bryson Bettencourt came home with 6th.
Despite his sixth place performance he still holds strong atop the standings at Lemoore. With a 74 point lead and three races remaining he virtually controls his own destiny. Good finishes and solid qualifying performances should be enough to seal the deal by seasons end.
Bettencourt will be back on track in just a couple of weeks when Plaza Park kicks the lights on for Race 9 on the schedule. Race 9 hits the dirt on Friday September 6 at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park in Visalia, California.
