Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 26, 2019) -> Lucas Mauldin posted a clean sweep Saturday night at Dixon Speedway.
He ran his number 55x D1 Jr Sprint to quick time in qualifying, a heat race victory, trophy dash win, and seventh main event win of the season Saturday night.
Throughout most of the season Mauldin has been contesting at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park on Friday nights. He has a win at Plaza and currently sits inside the top 5 in points. However this weekend the Mauldin family couldn’t make the trip down to Visalia so they decided to hit Dixon Speedway on Saturday.
Lucas did not disappoint.
In just his second attempt at Dixon Speedway this season he proved to be the dominant force within the Jr Sprint ranks. Although in qualifying the Dixon faithful kept things close. Mauldin only posted quick time by a paper-thin .006, or six one-thousandths, of a second. Nonetheless he was quick time.
The heat race painted an entirely different picture. This time Mauldin was four tenths of a second faster than the field. During the 10-lap affair Mauldin posted a race-beat 13.052 lap time compared to the second fastest 13.440. He was on another level of speed heading into Dixon’s famous trophy dash.
In the four-lap trophy dash set to determine the starting order of the main event the second place driver was able to bring the gap back within the hundredths. The gap in the dash was .063. But it wasn’t enough.
Lucas Mauldin came into the 20-lap, Dixon Speedway, Race 11 Jr Sprint main event starting on the pole. He was perfect up to that point of the night and looked to continue that level of domination.
Lucas put his foot to the floor and stepped out front early. He lead the way from the drop of the flag. He also proved to be the class of the field in this one as well according to the stop watch. His 13.358 lap time bested the field once again. This time the second fastest lap on the track was a 13.666. Mauldin was a full three tenths faster than the field in the most important race of the night. What’s more however, he not only turned in the fastest time of the race, he did it when it counted most. Lucas Mauldin’s fastest lap was lap 20 – the last one.
Saturday night at Dixon Speedway was resoundingly successful for Lucas Mauldin. He took the checkered and turned in the fastest lap during every outing on track. That was win number seven for the Jr Sprint driver out of Rancho Murrieta.
Up next he’ll head back to Delta Speedway for the next two installments in his quest for the Jr Sprint championship.
On tap for Lucas Mauldin and the 55x team is the Delta Speedway Labor Day tradition – The Duel at Delta. Saturday and Sunday night the lights come on at the 1/7th mile oval on the San Joaquin county Fairgrounds accounting for rounds 11 and 12 of the season.
With four races remaining Lucas Mauldin enters the weekend atop the Jr Sprint standings by 42 points. The season has hit the home stretch. He’ll look to increase his points lead while grabbing wins eight and nine on the year.
