Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 27, 2019) – > Brody Fuson endured a race weekend on both ends of the spectrum last weekend at Plaza Park and Lemoore Raceway.
Following a clean, virtually problem-free weekend at Delta, Fuson felt like his run as no luck Chuck at Plaza and Lemoore was over. Friday night gave plenty of reason to feel that was indeed the case. But Saturday, on the other hand, was a different story.
He came into Plaza Park looking to get back to the front of the pack and contending for wins. As he came into the night sitting second in points with four non wing podiums prior to race eight, Fuson had established himself as a top contender in Visalia. But two weeks ago he came out swinging, leading the main event convincingly before losing it all at the hands of a judgement call and hard racing. While he still walked away with a top five finish, facing the reality of what could have been weighed on the whole teams mind.
Friday night the 51 had his sights set on running up front. He qualified second quick and followed it up with fourth in his heat race. He moved onto the main event starting from the third position.
As the field came to green Fuson filed back into the fourth position where he stayed most of the race. He watched the leaders battle from the cat bird seat keeping them honest. He was ready to pounce if any mistake was made. And there was.
With just a few laps remaining Brody was able to find himself on the opposite end of the bad luck. The second and third place drivers got together and he was able to capitalize slipping into the runner up position. From that point forward he held court and drove his way to his fifth non wing podium of the season at Plaza finishing in second.
Following race eight at Plaza Fuson still occupies the second position in non wing points with just three races remaining. At Lemoore on the other hand, Fuson no longer occupies second in the non wing points standings after Saturday’s result.
Things looked to be going well for the 51 on the start of the night at Lemoore. He qualified third and finished third in his heat, but bad luck struck once again.
During Saturday’s main event the 51 experienced battery causing Fuson to pull out and earn a “DNF” on the night. Ironically as Friday night was his fifth podium at Plaza, Saturday was his fifth finish of tenth or worse at Lemoore. With Saturday DNF he also relented 2nd in the points now sitting third, seven points out of second.
Fuson thought the run of bad luck was over but not this time. Bad luck chuck reappeared and haunted the night for the 51. He’ll take a weekend off from micros this weekend and run a focus Midget at Ventura Raceway again for a breath of fresh air. Fuson has raced the focus Midget this season and he looks forward to getting back in the bigger car.
In two weeks he’ll be back behind the wheel of the 51 micro sprint when Plaza Park turns the lights on for Race 9 September 6. The very next day he’ll give it a go at Lemoore again in search of better results at Race 11 on September 7th.
