Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive-VISALIA, Calif. (August 28, 2019) -> Jett Barnes will be behind the wheel of a race car from Saturday through Tuesday this Labor Day weekend.
It’s an eight year-old race car drivers dream weekend. Four strait nights of racing action highlight Labor Day weekend for Jett Barnes. He’s set to take on the Duel at Delta in the Jr Sprint Saturday and Sunday night up in Stockton. Following Delta Speedway’s Labor Day tradition the Jr Sprint gets put away and Outlaw Kart comes out. For Monday and Tuesday Barnes travels further north to Chico for one of the biggest Outlaw Kart events of the year – The Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase at Cycleland Speedway.
The Showcase has quickly gained prestige since its inception. Today it’s one of the most coveted Outlaw Kart titles on the map. Drivers come from far and wide to run for a chance at glory in the race the bares the name of the man who catapulted Outlaw Kart Racing onto the radar of the masses. Jett Barnes is no exception. His 2018 Showcase was one he’ll never forget.
Last year Barnes kicked off his Showcase by qualifying third in the Box Stock class and finishing second in his heat race. In the main event – he made his mark.
He started the main event from the outside front row. On lap three the caution waved and another driver ran up the side of him. He was sent to the back of the pack. Jett proceeded to drive his way back up to third through the entire field while turning in the second fastest overall lap time. But it got better. In tech it was found that the second place driver was in violation of the mandated rules and therefore disqualified. Jett became the official runner up at the 2018 Showcase.
In 2019 he heads to Cycleland looking to finish one spot higher.
First, however, he will spend his Saturday and Sunday night trying to capture his 15th and possibly 16th Jr Sprint wins of the season. He’ll be running at Delta Speedway during their Duel at Delta two night affair in his brand new D1 Jr Sprint.
Fresh off the heels of his first two podiums for the Driven Brand the team feels like they’ve got the new car figured out and they’re primed to put the D1 in the winners circle for the first time.
The first couple of races in the D1 have proven to have a bit of a learning curve but the performance has steadily improved with each race. With 14 Jr Sprint victories to his credit already this season, the three week drought seems like an eternity for JB Motorsports.
Last year Barnes didn’t make it to the Duel at Delta so he’s hoping to start a new winning trend. He wants to win both nights at Delta and then pick up the Showcase victory. After all Barnes does have a good record when it comes to transitioning between The Outlaw Kart and Delta Speedway in the Jr Sprint.
Just this past March Barnes stole the show when he arrived late from the West Coast Nationals in Red Bluff, jumped in the car with no practice or race time on track, and won the main event. Which also happened to be his first time back in a Jr Sprint in three months at the time. This time it’ll be a transition from Jr Sprint over to Outlaw Kart but in an ideal scenario, the results will be the same.
All in all this weekend will be better than a weekend at Disneyland for a kid who is as passionate about racing as Jett Barnes. He’s set for his four- night, action-packed, race car extravaganza. Jett Barnes will be at Delta Speedway Saturday and Sunday night for the Duel at Delta. Following Sunday’s race it’s on to Cycleland for the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase.
