Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (September 9, 2019) -> Lucas Mauldin prevailed victorious in his fourth consecutive race Friday night at Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park.
Friday nights win was not only his fourth win in a row, but his second of the season at Plaza Park, and his 10th victory of 2019 overall. He came in riding a wave of momentum following his double dose of victory at the Dual at Delta.
Being a Delta local didn’t take anything away from the accomplishment but backing it up in the south certainly validated his status as one of, if not the best, Jr Sprint racers in the state. An article came out last week on the Plaza Park Facebook page talking about the Jr Sprint class being an all-star race every week. It goes on to say that it’s like an all-star race because the points leaders from three of the four California tracks regularly converge there on Friday nights.
Well the three of them all raced each other two nights in a row on Lucas’s home turf at Delta, and he won convincingly. Friday night he got the opportunity to take it to their home turf and the result was the same. With that being said, Friday night may have been the biggest win of the season for Mauldin. At very least it was the biggest statement making win.
As if winning weren’t enough it’s how he did it. Friday night kicked off with qualifying and the 55x landed on top of the board. He pulled off quick time to start the night by nearly an entire tenth of a second. From that point it was on to the heat race. He started from the pole and put that checkered flag in his back pocket.
He was two for two entering the Keller Auto Raceway Plaza Park Race 9 Jr Sprint feature. The last time he won at Plaza was back in April. His entire year has been phenomenal but lately he’s elevated his game to another level. He came into the main on a three race win streak with nine wins on the season. As he started from the pole he saw the opportunity to take his win count into double digits, and earn number four in a row, in his competitions backyard.
The green flag dropped and that’s all she wrote.
After 20 laps of pacing the field Lucas Mauldin took the checkered flag at Keller Auto Raceway against the full fleet of Jr Sprint standouts. Friday night not only represents his 10th win of the season, his second at Plaza Park, and his 17th podium. In addition to 17 podiums, he now has 17 top fives, and an astounding 21 top tens in 21 features. He also still sits inside of the top five in points at Plaza Park despite missing a couple of races. Friday nights win also does a lot for the teams confidence heading into Plaza’s biggest race of the season in two weeks – The Third Annual Mark Hagopian Memorial.
But first, Mauldin heads back to Delta Speedway this Saturday for the penultimate round of the track championship season. He’s on the cusp of nailing down that championship as he comes in race 13 holding a 56 point advantage with just two races remaining.
It’s title time at Delta.
