Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (September 10, 2019) – > Brody Fuson put in two more non wing top five finishes at Plaza and Lemoore last weekend but the highlight of his weekend was the return to the wing class Saturday night.
Fuson came into Friday night fresh off a focus Midget win at Ventura Raceway the previous Saturday. From the first laps out at Keller Auto Raceway it appeared that he brought the momentum with him. He started off his race weekend with quick time Friday night.
He followed it up with second in his non wing heat heat and went into the 30-lap main event set to start from the fourth position. In his 24th non wing feature of the season Fuson went on to gain one monumental spot and earn his seventh podium of the year. He finished third, and challenged two of the best micro sprint racers of the era and arguably in history. Along with seven podiums Friday night was his 13th top five and 18th top ten.
Saturday night the Race Pa Motorsports crew travelled west to Lemoore Raceway. The battle at Lemoore is for second in non wing points. Fuson held the position most of the year but recently relented it with three races remaining. The focus at Lemoore as it stands, is to gain back the runner up spot in points.
But Saturday had a different focal point.
Saturday night the 51 rolled out the wing car for the first time since Speedweek. After not running super 600 due to factors beyond Brody’s control, with the Mark Hagopian Memorial just weeks away, the wings finally came back out, and so did Brody.
Of course he was pulling double duty. No one will forget about the 51 in the non wing class. He qualified third Saturday at Lemoore. He then finished fourth in his heat race and brought home his 14th top five of the season with a 5th place finish.
After as long as he spent out of the car he wasn’t expecting to out perform himself in the wing class. But he came out swinging. It started with third quick in qualifying and then third in his heat. In the night-cap 30-lap feature he came to the green from third, alongside two of the most dominant wing drivers all year. When the green flag dropped the talking stopped. Fuson held his own. He held stout.
Brody Fuson was able to drive the Super 600 wing car to a runner up finish. It was his first wing main in nearly three months. Saturday’s performance has to bode well for his confidence going into some of the biggest races of the season.
Speaking of big races, the attention of the California Micro Sprint scene has turned to the Third Annual Mark Hagopian Memorial. In two weeks, on Friday September 20, and Saturday September 21, Keller Auto Raceway rolls out the red carpet for its crown jewel event once again. The Super 600 class will once again contest for $5000 in a 50-lap showdown headlining the event Saturday night. But more than the money and the prestige, night one and two are the final two points races at Keller Auto Raceway this season.
Fuson is ready to take the big stage by storm. It’s all on the line.
