Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusive. CORCORAN, Calif. (October 7, 2019) – > Katey Syra drove her number 73 Pace Chassis to a remarkable rookie campaign in the ultra-competitive central California Non Wing Micro Sprint division.
Strait out of the Restricted ranks she jumped in both feet first. She decided to go into the lions den and challenge some of the best Micro Sprint drivers to have ever strapped in. She took on Some of the most decorated drivers in history- and she more than held her own.
Friday night she has the coveted opportunity to wrap up second in the overall Championship Points Standings at Lemoore Raceway. Not only can she wrap up second, she would be running second to possibly the hottest driver in the country, the driver with over 35 wins, and breaking legendary Micro Sprint records left and right. With just 19 feature events under her belt, she already has the opportunity to be aligned with such highly touted drivers.
In her rookie campaign, Katey Syra held stout, earning two brilliant top-five main event finishes. She also earned 12 top-ten finishes against a widely regarded, highly-stacked, field of competitors. Both of Syra’s top fives came at Lemoore Raceway. The first of which came In her second night at Lemoore and fourth night in the car at all. During night-two of Lemoore’s Second Annual Jet Bowl Classic Syra climbed a staggering six positions, to pick up fourth-place.
After stringing along several more top tens throughout the season she found the magic again at Round Nine when she came home 5th earning her second top five of the season. She nearly earned her third at Round 12, but she narrowly missed the top five finishing sixth.
While her race craft might be impressive, her qualifying efforts are what have dropped jaws.
Katey Syra only qualified outside of the top ten twice during her entire rookie season. Part of the intangible skills mentioned is qualifying ability. The ability to qualify strong generally sets up an entire night to run on the right foot. Syra has been a prime example of such, and she’s taken the momentum that’s been given to her.
In total, Syra qualified within the top-ten 17 times. In nine of those attempts, she wound up inside the top-five. Furthermore in five of her best attempts she qualified top three. She put her name up on, and often beat, the biggest names in sport, the stars that constantly light up the scoreboard.
Her top level performance has earned her the opportunity to cap of the 69th season of racing at Lemoore Raceway as the rookie of the year and official runner-up in the official Non Wing 600 championship points standings.
Along the way she made more of a name for herself by automatically qualifying to the highly-attended, Mark Hagopian Memorial at Plaza Park, qualifying with fierce precision so consistently, and being willing to learn from every avenue and opportunity presented to her.
She’s got wins on her mind and the future is bright. The elements of a driver that cannot be taught flow feverishly through Syra. She has the tenacity to keep digging, she has the teachability to keep learning, she has the adaptability to keep growing, and most of all she has the desire to keep winning.
Her rookie season is coming down to the wire and she’s starting to show that’s she is ready to be a contender moving forward. First she has the chance to cement her season as a success by wrapping up second overall in the Lemoore Raceway track championship standings.
The season at Lemoore Raceway comes to an end this weekend with the Double points finale – Budweiser Grand Prix. Anything can happen with one more battle looming large.
Its make it or break it time. Seasons are on the line.
