Mauldin Puts Exclamation Point on Delta Title

Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 8, 2019) -> Lucas Mauldin put an exclamation point on his 2019 Delta Speedway Season by closing it out earning his 12th win and wrapping up the Jr Sprint Championship.

Mauldin entered Saturday’s finale in prime position to pick up the title but he decided to go out on top. Prior to Saturday night he already boasted a staggering seven wins in 12 races. He had effectively already wrapped up the title, he did not need to win, but he made a statement.

He put an exclamation point on the statement that he was the best Jr Sprint driver at Delta all season long.

After 13 features this season Mauldin won eight times. He finished on the podium 11 times and inside of the top ten in all 13 races. His season-low finish was 8th at night two of the Summer Sizzle. In fact besides his 6th on night one, and 8th on night two of that weekend, Lucas Mauldin finished on the podium in every other race at Delta this year.

In total he racked up the numbers to have a 2nd Place average finish, 61% win rate, 84% podium rate, and 100% top ten rate. On his way to putting up those numbers he strung together a back to back win streak as well as a three-peat. He also swept the Dual at Delta and put up 3/4 of his seasons total wins at Delta Speedway. He was far and away the most consistent and dominant driver in the class.

His path to claiming this title started with a win to kick off the points season in April. He followed that up with second at round two and redemption at round three. He got back into victory lane in early May before enduring a brief summertime drought. The Summer Sizzle is the lone blemish on Mauldin’s 2019 campaign. It was an uncharacteristic weekend with 6th and 8th place finishes posted. However, that’s another indication of the season he had, those two top ten finishes represent the two lowest runs of his entire year overall.

Mauldin returned in July and went on an absolute terror. He picked up the wins from round seven and round eight. His runner up bid at round nine was the only night in six races he did not stand in the center of victory lane. From mid July to mid September, rounds seven through twelve, saw Mauldin win five out of the six races.

In the penultimate round he gave a demoralizing run for the competition. He climbed six spots in the main event to land on the podium yet again. This was after suffering brief issues early in the night that could have potentially took him out of contention all together. He made the statement all year long.

Lucas Mauldin was the man to beat in the Jr Sprint class at Delta Speedway in 2019.

He put the final exclamation point on his biggest statement Saturday night. With the pressure on and everything on the line he went out and, not only handled business, but put the field in a hurt-locker. His charge from third to first in the final points paying main event of the year at Delta Speedway was enough to earn him the crown.

Lucas Mauldin is your 2019 Delta Speedway Jr Sprint Track Champion.
