Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive-VISALIA, Calif. (October 21, 2019) -> Jett Barnes earned his first career Jr Sprint Championship this season at Lemoore Raceway.
After winning six out of thirteen races, and placing in the top five in 12 of them Barnes amassed a 1st place average finish in 2019, and it was enough to claim the crown.
Before the season started Barnes still wasn’t sure that he didn’t have a curse set on him at Lemoore Raceway since he was yet to win prior to this seasons opener – The “Jet Bowl Classic.” He quickly put those doubts aside when he swept the weekend and took early command of the class.
Barnes went on to win four of his 18 overall races over the course of the season at Lemoore, or 33% of his attempts on the famed 1/5 mile. In true Championship form he also finished on the podium a staggering 12 out of 13 tries at Lemoore. His remarkable consistency leaves no question as to how he earned the title.
Heading into the Budweiser Grand Prix Points Finale things were tense for Barnes. With double points on the line his narrow 30 point margin was far from safe. Barnes needed to execute one more podium worthy performance.
He started out the night by qualifying second. It was a good start. He needed to keep second in the standings within his sights to walk away the champ. After coming home in fifth from the heat race things became a bit less easy going as the impending title hung in the balance. There were so many variables that could not be accounted for and the team went over every possibility of potential outcomes prior to going out on the track.
Once Jett lined up and went out on the track for the final 20- lap feature of the season it was all up to him. No more scenarios could be thought up, no more questions could be asked, it was all about the young boy and him being where he loves most, – behind the wheel of a race car.
He took off from the fifth position while he looked at his title rival lead the field to green. He knew what needed to be done. Once again Barnes proved to be wiser than his age. He drove a smart, tactical, race with precision and accuracy. He got the 55 up to second and stayed there knowing that as long as he could see the leader it would be enough to win the title.
He did it. His second place finish was enough to wrap up the 2019 Lemoore Raceway Jr Sprint Championship.
Now Barnes has his sights set on contesting in his Outlaw Kart during the winter at the Sanders Motorsports Barnburner in Chowchilla, and most notably he plans on giving a serious run at the title in Red Bluff for the prestigious Red Bluff Outlaws Championship.
Barnes is looking to add partners to represent for his 2020 campaign. After last season things are looking good for Barnes heading into his Outlaw Kart run. After taking home a Jr Sprint title he has some extra momentum to benefit from come winter race time as well.
