Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. VISALIA, Calif. (October 22, 2019)- Brian Gilbert brought home another pair of top fives at the final points race of the season at Lemoore Raceway.
“After tearing up the car at Delta the previous week, we’ll take it,” Todd Gilbert said. “He was super fast all night we just didn’t get the finishes on paper to show it.”
It has been two years since Gilbert graced victory lane at Lemoore Raceway and he’s wanted to get back badly. Last Friday night he showed it. He was flying in the stock class. After qualifying second and winning his heat he found himself in prime position for a win in the main event.
In the 25 lap feature Gilbert applied the pressure to the leader. He and stocked him, ready to set up his move. But as fate would have it, as the two got into lapped traffic a lapped driver made a mistake, causing the leader to spin. Gilbert had no where to go and ended up involved. Luckily he didn’t receive the worst of it and restarted the main at the tail end of the field.
From that point he put on an impressive charge. He may have clocked in as the fourth fastest driver on the track but he made all the right moves. He was able to bring his Gilbert/Mack Racing #4G all the way back up to 5th. His top five marked his fourth top five at Lemoore in the stock class since he began racing this season back at the Palace Nationals in June.
In the Super 600 class he showed supreme Speed once again. He qualified 7th but went on to capture the heat race win just as he did in stock. In the 30 Lap Super 600 main event he was able to hold on for 5th in that one as well. That was also his fourth top five at Lemoore in the Super 600 class.
Ironically Brian Gilbert has turned in the exact same result in both the stock and super 600 classes at Lemoore the last four races. It all began at Round 10 where he put on a blistering charge to climb five spots and claim third in stock. On the same night he charged another three spots to earn third in Super 600. The next round he turned in a seventh in both classes. At the penultimate round he drove to possibly the best performance of his season, at Lemoore anyway. He earned the runner up spot in stock and then drove through the field and up to challenge Mitchel Moles in Super 600, again finishing second. Then at the Budweiser Grand Prix he turned in a pair of 5th albeit he was in contention for the stock win.
Gilbert will be back behind the wheel this weekend up in Stockton as he goes to take on Turkey Bowl XIX at Delta Speedway. This two day show features a unique format and lucrative payout. Gilbert will be taking on the drivers of the Super 600 division where he hopes to avenge his last run at Delta and get that coveted first Super 600 victory.
