Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive-VISALIA, Calif. (October 28, 2019) -> Jett Barnes took home his 19th win of the season and the Turkey Bowl XIX Title at Delta Speedway last weekend in a furious fight to the finish.
Barnes put the bookends on his Delta Speedway season. He won the first race of the year back in March and he took home Turkey Bowl. Saturday’s win accounts for his 19th Jr Sprint win in a single season. It also accounts for his 30th podium in 39 starts, and 35th top five. Remarkably he’s finished inside of the top ten in all 39 races.
Turkey Bowl started off on Friday night with a pair of heat races to determine the starting order for Saturday’s main event.
In heat race one-a Barnes started fourth and finished third while logging the fastest lap of the race. In heat race two-a Barnes started sixth and finished in the top spot. He again turned in the fastest lap time, this time however, it was by a much larger margin.
Heading into Saturday’s finale Barnes earned the third starting position.
Originally scheduled for 30 the Jr Sprint Turkey Bowl Main event came to green with 25 laps as the distance. In the beginning it was a battle at the front. Barnes held back and waiting in the catbird seat until the right opportunity presented itself.
Following a red flag on lap 16 Barnes restarted running second. The green flag dropped and the field came into turn one with Barnes still running second. As they exited he showed the way. From that point on Barnes proceeded to put in top flight laps and pull away from the field.
When the checkered flag flew after 25 laps Barnes crossed the line first for the 19th time this season and became the Turkey Bowl XIX Champion. Saturday’s won was his first-career Turkey Bowl Championship.
As far as the Jr Sprint class is concerned Barnes only has a couple more races. First, the California Cup is coming to Lemoore Raceway on November 8th and 9th, with a lucrative purse growing daily. Beyond that all that remains is Turkey Bowl at Plaza Park the next weekend and the Crown Jewel of the all – The Tulsa Shootout. Last year Barnes left Tulsa with a podium run. This year he’s looking to finish two spots higher.
Before Barnes makes the annual pilgrimage however, he has his sights set on contesting in his Outlaw Kart during the winter at the Sanders Motorsports Barnburner in Chowchilla, and most notably he plans on giving a serious run at the title in Red Bluff for the prestigious Red Bluff Outlaws Championship.
Barnes is looking to add partners to represent for his 2020 campaign. After last season things are looking good for Barnes heading into his Outlaw Kart run. After taking home a Jr Sprint title he has some extra momentum to benefit from come winter race time as well.
