Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- HANFORD, Calif. (November 13, 2019) – > Dalton Parreira capped off his rookie season at Lemoore Raceway with a $1,200 payday and a championship belt after earning his third win of the season at the California Cup.
The Sheriff came into the weekend with his eyes on the prize. After nine runner up finishes over the course of the season he was ready to step up and into the winners circle. In all it was a stellar rookie campaign. With 15 podiums, two wins, and 17 top fives coming into the weekend, the season could have already been considered a success, but the Sheriff wasn’t done yet.
Racing action from the Cal Cup kicked off Friday night. He got his weekend started off being the first restricted car to take time, timing In eighth quick on the charts out of 17 cars. He then parlayed that qualifying effort into a heat race victory from the pole. Heading into the preliminary night main event the Sheriff was slated to start the feature from the fifth position.
As the green flag dropped sometime in the wee hours of the morning Parreira managed to watch the action take place in front of him as he filed into fourth. His fourth place finish was enough to lock himself into the California Cup Finale on Saturday night.
Coming into the final race night of 2019 at Lemoore it was nothing but a main event on tap for the Sheriff. Friday’s fourth place earned him a direct ticket to the dash and guaranteed a top four starting spot in the main. He came out of the dash with a fourth place and then proceeded to draw the number four starting spot.
This was it. The final race of 2019 at Lemoore was for all the marbles. The Cal Cup crown, $1,200,
and a championship belt stood in victory lane awaiting the California Cup Champion.
The green flag dropped on the 30 lap feature and it was all in the drivers hands from that point. Once Parreira got himself into third and close to the runner-up position, where it was all-to familiar territory. He pressured the leader until she forced herself to the tail end of the field with a rough driving call.
With just more than half of the feature remaining Parreira was showing the way. He was not going to be denied this time. When the race continued to put the hammer down and clicked off perfect laps leaving the field to battle for the runner-up bid, behind him for a change.
He executed flawless laps. He drove the perfect race from that point forward dropping the field like a bad habit.
After 29 laps the white flag waved and it was just one more time around for the Sheriff. He crossed the finish line 2.5 seconds ahead of the second place driver to claim his third career Restricted 600 victory and third win of his rookie campaign.
The Sheriff was the bridesmaid no longer.
He jubilantly jumped from car and exclaimed his satisfaction. It was ever apparent that he had been longing for this return to victory. Prior to Saturday’s victory, it had been since June that the Sheriff graced the presence of victory lane. But Saturday night he did it.
Dalton the Sheriff Parreira became the California Cup Champion.
Up next the Sheriff takes on Keller Auto Raceway one more time for Turkey Night Friday November 15. Parreira hopes to build a streak and earn his fourth win of the year to complete his rookie campaign and take some momentum with him into 2020.
