Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider- Driver Exclusive. VISALIA, Calif. (November 15, 2019) – > Ty Lovenburg put in one of his career-best performances at last weekends California Cup at Lemoore Raceway.
Originally slated to debut in the 21 car originally piloted by his brother, Cash Lovenburg decided to race the Jr Sprint at Cal Cup. Ty had one more go in the 01t but it didn’t stop him from stepping up to the plate in spectacular fashion.
Night one of the Cal Cup started out with 4th quick in qualifying. This would serve as the first indication of what Ty brought to the table last weekend. He finished off the night with 5th in the heat race and trouble in the main leading to an 8th place finish after a DNF.
However he would not let that deter his mission.
Ty came into the Saturday night Cal Cup Finale as a young man with a plan.
He started out by qualifying 5th. From that point forward, however, he found the afterburners. In his heat race he finished a close second to the former Deming Speedway Track Champion after starting 5th. While putting in the hard charge he also logged the second quickest lap time in the stacked heat race. In fact, it was obvious he would stack up well in the main event as his fastest lap time was actually faster than his brothers time in the dash. His 13.031 would have actually been the fastest lap of the entire Jr Sprint dash that included the top three finishers from night one.
With momentum now on his side it was time for the 30-lap Cal Cup Jr Sprint finale and Ty sat on the outside of the front row.
The race took off and both Lovenburg brothers put on a show. It became evident that there is something about “Cup” races that leads to them elevating their game. Back in July at the Clay Cup remember Ty charged 11 positions forward from 18th to 7th in an outdated car compared to the competition. This go around, at the Cal Cup, he drove the wheels off it again.
Early in the going he filed into third place. Man different challengers presented themselves. Ty drove away and escaped every single challenge presented to him during the entire 25-lap duration. While the leader lapped almost into the top five, Ty was no where near falling victim to the leaders fierce charge. He drove the wheels off the 01t and earned his first podium of the season. It was one of his best drives to date, in terms of finishing position. Once again he did it in a car far older than the rest of the entire field.
Ty Lovenburg showed the field how much of a threat he will be when he moves over to the 21 car. His driving ability has spoken for itself. He’s masterfully wheeled an older car to stellar performances. What can he do at the helm of an equalized piece of equipment?
The world will soon find out.
Ty Lovenburg is slated to take over the 21 PMP in 2020. Look for that ride to remain at the front.
