Pair of Runner Up Finishes for Mauldin to Start 2020

Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- Rancho Murieta, Calif. (March 10, 2020) -> Lucas Mauldin found the second step of the podium during both nights of the 2020 curtain raiser at Keller Auto Raceway.

The 2020 drive for a Jr Sprint title is off to a solid start for Lucas Mauldin. While he didn’t reach the top step of the podium, it’s not due to not trying. Mauldin laid down a pair of valiant charges over the weekend landing him in second place both nights. On night two in fact he was merely one slip in a corner away from stealing the victory on the last lap.

Regardless of the outcome on paper, Lucas Mauldin is in prime position to seize the status of title favorite at Plaza after a brilliant points weekend.

After laying down a flyer in qualifying that looked like it may have stood, the 55x was shuffled down to second on board when the very last driver timed in. His 13.260 was good enough to stand as second and give him prime positioning going into the heat race.

Lucas Mauldin claimed his very first checkered flag of the year by winning his heat race and earning the second starting spot in the first main event of the season.

The night one 20-lap Jr Sprint main event was in climactic but to no dismay of the team running for a championship. Mauldin filed into the second position and proceeded to stay there and earn a solid points night. He showed to have the speed as his best lap was only .090 off of the leader and he kept him honest the whole time.

Night number two of the outlaw nationals was a whole new ballgame, and chance of capturing victory. Despite track conditions being vastly different Mauldin churned up an identical lap time to his night one performance: 13.260. Only this time it stood at third quick.

In the heat race while he was third quick according to the stop watch the 55x finished 5th on paper. Going into the Jr Sprint finale at the Outlaw Nationals Mauldin had his work cut out for him starting from the 5th spot.

The night two main event is where the action finally arose. Mauldin brought his A-Game to the Saturday night feature. It did not take him long to charge through the pack and Into striking distance. He stalked the leader for much of the race sizing him up and deciding where to pounce.

As the laps clicked away it became apparent the leader was a formidable match. Lapped traffic played a pivotal role as the two made it a race amongst themselves.

Just before The white flag waved Mauldin found his opportunity and went for the strike. He just about had it when the former leader became the present leader once again crossing the stripe. Mauldin sized him up once again and looked to have the perfect opportunity just when his car broke loose and he bobbled ever so slightly.

It was just enough though.

It was just enough to give the leader the breathing room he needed to deny Mauldin victory on night number two of the Outlaw Nationals.

Although he didn’t get the win he tried just about everything In the book and did not cost himself anything. In the big picture, it was a good points night and Lucas Mauldin sits in position to make a serious run at becoming the 2020 Keller Auto Raceway Jr Sprint Champion.

He’ll be back under the lights at Plaza Park for Keller Auto Raceway’s third race of the season up next on Friday March 27th. Be there to catch all the action live and in person as Lucas Mauldin runs for a title.
