Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- ELK GROVE, Calif. (May 25, 2020) – > Austin Wood picked up his first two wins of the 2020 race season by sweeping the Restricted class features on Saturday and Sunday night at Dixon Speedway.
Following a fast night that ended in trouble two weeks ago, Wood returned to Dixon Speedway with redemption on his mind.
The redemption was sweet. After eight total events on track over the last two day’s, Wood claimed the top spot in six out of eight events including Friday and Saturday nights restricted Features. Up to this point in the season now Austin Wood boasts an impressive two wins in five features, with four podiums and top fives, three heat Race victories, and a pair of quick times.
Wood has shown consistent speed in every category on track thus far in 2020. Following last weekends dominance he elevated his status to that of one of the premier Restricted class contenders moving forward.
The weekend started with speed right out of the gate Saturday night. Big-A churned up an 11.194 lap time that stood for quick time, his second of the season, and first at Dixon. He followed that up with a fourth in his heat before running the table on the rest of the night. From the pole he went wire to wire in the dash and landed the top starting spot for Saturday nights feature.
Coming into the main redemption, and the first check mark in the Win column stood just laps away from his grasp. He was not going to be denied this time. Wood went on to execute a flawless feature and in just his fourth race of the season Austin Wood put his name on the winners list for 2020.
One win got the monkey off his back; but Memorial Day weekend was not yet over for Austin Wood. He wanted to give the Restricted field a Memorial Day to remember and he was able to do just that.
Sunday night didn’t start off quite as well as he timed in with eighth quick. However, it would be the last event all weekend long that his name wouldn’t occupy the top of the charts. From that point forward, Austin Wood yet again, ran the table.
Wood’s run to the Sunday finish began with a heat Race win, before another wire-to-wire dash victory, and then closing the curtain with his second consecutive Restricted main event win. Austin Wood closed the book on Dixon Speedway’s Memorial Day double-header with a display of dominance.
As it stands Austin Wood now holds a 40% win record, 80% podium & top five record, 60% heat win record and 40% of his quick time qualifying efforts through five races this season. Things are looking bright for the Restricted class standout in his sophomore 600 season. No matter where the season takes him Austin Wood has certainly solidified his status in the Restricted division.
He went to Dixon Speedway with nothing less than redemption on his mind. After an entire weekend of overall chart topping results, it’s safe to say that – Redeem himself, is exactly what he did.
