Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- Rancho Murieta, Calif. (June 14, 2020) -> Lucas Mauldin adapted to a beat up race car to drive his way to his fourth consecutive podium finish to start the year in just as many races.
Contact of no fault of his own, with a lapped driver, early in the feature, cost Mauldin a chance to put the 55x in victory lane for the second time this season, according to his father, Scott.
“Lucas got hit by a lapped car early in the feature and it completely knocked his left front radius rod completely off,” said Scott. “After that happened it was a serious struggle to keep the car turning left.”
Despite the ill effects of the contact Lucas Mauldin was able to adapt to the driving conditions and wheel his way to another podium finish at Dixon Speedway. With just four races under his belt this season Mauldin boasts a single victory, In his previous attempt at Dixon, and three other podium finishes from the outlaw Nationals at Plaza and his first run at Dixon in may.
The night Saturday wasn’t all bad by any means. Mauldin kicked off his race night by timing in second quick in Jr Sprint qualifying. He turned that into a charge through the field to win his heat race from the fourth starting position in just ten laps.
It was back into the runner up slot for the dash. Mauldin started second and finished second to earn a position on the outside of the front row for Dixon’s 15-lap Jr Sprint feature Saturday night.
In the feature Mauldin was once again in the mix. The crafty young man was a threat for the win despite being just a tick off on the lapped charts to the pole sitter all night. Mauldin was slicing through the pack and making big moves before getting the brunt end of the deal with a lapped driver. Once his left front radius rod was detached from the car things because significantly more difficult. Even though he now had a handful of a Jr Sprint to maintain Lucas Mauldin kept his head up and foot on the floor. At the stripe the gap was only a mere .159 from the leader. Lucas Mauldin was movin no matter what the car had in store for him.
In the end he held on for a third place finish. Again, his fourth consecutive podium in as many races.
As the season finally progresses Lucas Mauldin is beginning to seize the momentum he’ll need as the main objective of his season finally goes green next weekend.
The 2019 Delta Speedway Jr Sprint Champion will finally begin his title defense next Saturday. That’s right, the crew over at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds has finally been given the OK to let the cars race on the famed 1/7th mile oval. Next Saturday Lucas Mauldin will enter the grounds of Delta Speedway as the man to beat in Jr Sprint competition. The 2020 Delta Speedway Jr Sprint title goes through Lucas Mauldin.
