Inhuman Fuson

Prodigy Race Promotions on Sprint Car Insider. Driver Exclusive- BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (June 15, 2020) – > Brody Fuson added two more wins to his stat sheet last weekend with another Super 600 win at Plaza and a hard fought non wing victory to ring in the season at Lemoore.

If there is any driver who actually returned from the covid hiatus faster than before it’s Brody Fuson. The way he has been man-handling the race car, and driving with immense intensity, has left those on the fence watching with their jaws dropped.

“That kid is an animal,” – Jake Hagopian.

The animal comparison is no cliche in this sense. His animalistic instinct was put on display many times this last weekend. It was that instinct that carried him to victory on Saturday night in a tough, high-speed chess match of sorts in the late stages of the non wing feature at Lemoore.

The weekend started off Friday night at Plaza for the first time since the outlaw nationals. Remember Fuson was able to come away from that one with his first career super 600 victory. Upon returning it was evident he still had that momentum with him.

Fuson qualified second quick in non wing and third quick in super 600 Friday night. In the heat races a pair of thirds took him into the main events. When main event time came around, Brody Fuson once again rose to the occasion. In non wing a hard fought third place finish added another podium to his stat sheet but it was once again Super 600 where the young star shined. He went out and asserted his dominance over the field to take his second career Super 600 checkered flag in as many races at Plaza Park. Friday’s win accounted for his second of the 2020 season, and second in the wing class.

On Saturday night Fuson finally emerged from the woodworks in his native non wing fashion.

Saturday night the gates at Lemoore Raceway opened for the first time in 2020 and everyone was happy to be back at the famous 1/5 mile micro sprint sanctuary. Runner up in non wing points last year, Brody Fuson was given the chance to go heads up against last years title combatant Saturday night.

After qualifying fifth in non wing and ninth in Super, Fuson followed it up with second in his non wing heat and fifth in the super 600. Then it was main event time. Once again, the stars shine brightest on the biggest stage.

In the super 600 feature Fuson put on a signature charge. After starting ninth he worked his way up to the top five with precision and ferocity. As the race came to the late stages he had somehow caught the front pack and seemed ready to get into the mix. Watching from the sea train at Lemoore Fuson’s pure speed was awe inspiring and everyone noticed it. Bets began to take shape as to if he was going to steal the win. His charge was impressive. His balance between aggression and precision was borderline perfection. In the end after a couple late race cautions he was only able to finish third. Another podium for Fuson, but many believe he was the man who could have stolen that win, he did charge six positions through the field, however, it was a dominant display in and of itself.

Although he didn’t get the Super 600 victory another impressive performance earlier in the night added his third win of 2020 to his stat sheet.

Coming into the non wing feature the 51 came to green from the 5th starting spot. It did not take long to find his way to the front. Fuson got into the lead and seemed to be on his way to victory. But late race cautions and a crafty front-runner behind him, almost put the win in jeopardy.

With Lemoore’s new restart rule in effect Fuson nearly became the victim of it with just laps to go. He surrendered the leaf to last years champion and had to remount an attack with just a couple of circuits around Lemoore Raceway to go. The two battled exchanging moves from corner to corner at full send, ensuing the high speed chess match. But it was Fuson who hit Check Mate to seal the deal when the checkered flag dropped.

It was win number one without the wing for 2020, win number three overall, and a personal victory that may trump all the stars as he gave one back up the man who beat him for the title just a season ago.

Things are rolling well for the pilot of the 51 RacePa Motorsports D1 as 2020 finally gets rolling on a consistent basis. Fuson has established himself as the man to beat in the micro and it’s a crown he seems to wear well.

From this point forward knocking the 51 off his pedestal is going to be a task not for the faint of heart.

It’s Showtime. What happens next?
