Placerville, CA – July 6, 2020…Colby Copeland and Canales Racing had started off the Placerville Speedway season in exceptionally consistent fashion earning three consecutive runner up finishes heading into this past Saturday. During the Fourth of July Spectacular they vowed to improve one more position and that is exactly what they did by claiming a thrilling late race triumph on the action-packed red clay bullring.

“It feels great to finally get a win here at Placerville Speedway after how strong we’ve started,” Copeland said in victory lane. “Trevor (Canales) has been giving me fast cars each week and thankfully it all came together tonight. The track was excellent once again and it was a lot of fun racing with Shane (Golobic) and Mitchell (Faccinto). I want to thank the Canales family and all our supporters for making this possible. It’s always special when you can bring home a win on Independence Day.”

Copeland and crew chief Trevor Canales had been riding a wave of momentum at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds quarter-mile and kicked things off by qualifying second fastest in their group. He then charged to an exciting heat race victory while attacking the familiar Placerville cushion, which played crucial as it gave him a spot in the Dash, where he went on to finish sixth aboard the Econo Lube N’ Tune & Brakes/ Eagle Companies Inc./ Geico Insurance No. 5C.

The first handful of laps in the feature saw a couple slowdowns, but the final 24 circuits were clicked off without incident and provided outstanding multi-groove racing. Copeland climbed to third by lap six and then spent much of the contest dicing it up with Mitchell Faccinto and Shane Golobic. The 28-year-old stalked the leader and with five laps to go made the winning move by sliding up in front of Faccinto to grab the top spot.

Navigating his way through traffic the Roseville driver withstood a final charge from Golobic to cross under the Ron Stahl checkered flag and pick up his first career Placerville Speedway victory.

Trent Canales also competed once again behind the wheel of the No. 5T Sprinter and began the evening by qualifying third quickest in his group, before tallying a third place finish in his heat race. He then started from the outside of row number seven in the feature and crossed the stripe in 18th after 30 laps of hard-fought racing on the bullring.

The next scheduled events for Canales Racing will find Copeland taking part in the 10th annual Howard Kaeding Classic with the King of the West-NARC 410 Sprint Cars on July 18th. Trent Canales is scheduled to be in action during the Friday night portion of the HK Classic on July 17th, before heading to Placerville Speedway the following evening.
